New Program Announcement
Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association Field Day
Date: Tuesday, August 6, 2013
Location: Penn State Southeast Agriculture Research and Extension Center (Landisville Farm)
Vegetable Growers need to save Tuesday, August 6, 2013 for this years’ PVGA Field Day. This is your opportunity to see the latest applied research and new equipment up close in the field. Projects this year include: Parthenocarpic, High Tunnel Cucumber Variety Trial, Roma / Paste Tomato Variety Trial (Field and High Tunnel), Field Cucumber Variety Trial, Sweet Corn Variety Trial, Tomato and Bell Pepper High Tunnel Economics Trials, Managing Late Blight with Host Resistance on Tomatoes with Forecasted Fungicide Applications, Late Blight Resistant Tomato Cultivars, Insecticide efficacy trials on cucumbers and pumpkins, Managing Bacterial Diseases of Onions, Managing Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs in Bell Peppers, Broccoli spacing trial, and much more, including the Flower Variety Trials with more than 1,200 of the newest varieties of annual flowers.
We plan on having a tasting of the 24 varieties of paste / Roma type tomatoes as part of this event. This is one of the fastest growing areas of tomato demand as restaurants seek tomatoes with less liquid for sandwiches.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR EACH PERSON, including spouses. Early registration by July 30, 2013 is $20 per person. After July 30 the fee increases to $30 person (this is also the walk-in fee). Children ages 3-10 are $10 early and $15 after 7/30/13. Children younger than 3 are no charge. No refunds of registration fees will be made unless canceled by August 1 in writing, by phone (717-694-3596) or email (pv...@pvga.org). No confirmation will be mailed prior to the Field Day.
