GSoC is free and open-source software coding project during the summer (duration 3 months) sponsored by Google. It's all about fun, experience, contacts along with money (5000 USD), fame.

GSoC  is a program in which you get to work on a project for another existing open-source project. You might get a chance to work on improving some part of Mozilla Firefox or even your favourite python libraries! GSoC is organized and sponsored by Google.Students from all over the world can apply for contributing in open source projects in GSoC. Students in turn get cash reward of 5000 USD (approx. Rs. 2.5L), a participating certificate from Google and an awesome t-shirt.

Student applications starts on 22nd April. Deadline: 3rd May.

Google for "GSOC experience" to get first-hand accounts of students @
GSOC with various projects

Look for "GSOC" pages on websites of the open-source projects you are
interested in, to see what kind of projects they will accept
