About the Speakers

Basant Rajan

Basant has over 20 years of industry experience, combining research and technology skills with a talent for incubating teams and growing them into large organizations. He was the CTO of Symantec India and headed the SRL (Symantec Research Labs) for 3 years, where he was responsible for sustaining and fostering innovation across 2500 engineers. He was a founder member of the Patent Filter committee and himself a prolific contributor to Symantec’s IP programs. He holds a number of patents in the storage domain. Basant oversaw the offshoring of several large projects in Symantec, and headed the Storage Foundation group of over 300 engineers. Basant started his career as a file system engineer, working on key features of the industry standard VERITAS file system. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay.

Dilip Ranade

Dilip has over 20+ years of experience in storage and distributed systems in Symantec, Veritas, Microsoft and CDAC. He has successfully managed and lead teams implementing products in these domains. He built the VERITAS cluster filesystem. He has over 17 issues patents and more applied for. Dilip is the author of a book on computer clusters published by John Wiley and Sons. He is well-known for his vast experience and is a popular speaker with a knack of explaining complex ideas in simple terms. Dilip holds an M.Tech. (CS) from Pune University and a B.Tech. from IIT-B.

Amit Kale

Amit is the most famous Linux kernel hacker in India and was popularly known as “The KGDB Guy”. Linux kernel debugger KGDB, created by Amit has been used by almost every Linux kernel developer across the world. He is well-known around the world as an expert in the areas of architecture support, debuggers and filesystems. He has over 14 years of professional experience. He founded and lead LinSysSoft Technologies, a services company with system software focus. LinSysSoft served global corporations such as Intel, Mellanox and Red Hat. He also worked in technical positions in successful companies in storage and embedded domains: Veritas Software (now Symantec), TimeSys Corporation and sTec Inc. Amit is a community leader and has been an advisor, mentor and guide to students and professionals over a decade. He founded and leads GEEks Of Pune (GEEP). Amit has done his M.Tech.(CS) from IITB and B.E.(Computers) from COEP.
