Hi,

I know everyone spends time on Facebook. I'm not even sure how many of you'll have
heard of Quora.

Quora is a site where there are topics and people post questions in those topics. These
questions are answered by many people and you can answer them too. Think of something
like stack overflow - except that the topics are not limited to the anything.

Why I suggest you join Quora :

1. Its a genuine chance to hear what really intelligent people have to say about the various
questions that exist today. For example, Jimmy Wales(the founder of Wikipedia), answers
questions on Quora. You can follow Robert Love. He answers any question that is asked to
him about the Linux kernel. I've asked him one and he answered within 12 hours. :-)
2. You will get a feel of the real world. Most of us have never been exposed to real world
problems in our professional education. But, let me tell you this - writing enterprise software
is more about developing some subjective qualities within ourselves. Like diligence, for
example. On Quora, you can be sure that people are going to cannonball you to dust if you
haven't researched your facts before putting up an answer. Or if your answer is tangential
to the question. Or if you are stupid and arrogant.
3. There are an awful lot of people who know a boatload about something. Whether it is an
algorithm or marketing, whether it is mythology or entrepreneurship, there will be people who
are genuinely intelligent and can answer questions in those domains.
4. Most of us have the attention span of a rodent and this might be the only reading we ever
do.
5. If you have a bubble around yourself which tells you that you are extremely intelligent, guess
what, there is a seventeen year old Indian on Quora who will have you running for a dictionary
when you read her content, there is an entrepreneur on Quora waiting to disillusion you about
what great companies are made of, there is a rockstar programmer to tell you that you
look like a chimp who can tell a banana from an apple if you are compared to him, there is
an expert on Game of Thrones, a compulsive reader, a military strategist, an evolutionary
biologist and even a guy who lives in the middle of nowhere. I could go on, but I think you
get the point.

But let me warn you, it is addictive :-)

Oh and one more thing...don't expect to learn anything from Quora if you are following questions
on Justin Bieber. Justin Timberlake doesn't qualify either.

In short, Quora is a place to learn. Join it, try it out, and hopefully it will teach you a lot.

Regards,
Mahesh
