NOW WiFi Pass only available on WiFi hotspots that are owned and operated by Xfinity excluding other companies' hotspots including those that offer Xfinity WiFi access (e.g., in stadiums or at certain business locations).

After I saw this link offered by vasishath, I managed to setup a wireless hotspot to share the internet connection from the same single wireless interface device. This wireless device must to use an Atheros driver that is already build with nl80211 support. Next I will show you how.

Easy, right?Well the rest is even easier... ...If your device is able to be used as a client and a PA at the same time (like atheros wifi chip - edit: some Intel chip too, see second comment bellow) you simply have to connect to your home router with network manager, as you usually do, and than you execute a command line like that:

Here is my project Linux Wifi Hotspot which has both GUI and command-line interface. It can create a virtual wifi hotspot on the same wifi adapter which is connected to the internet. It has additional features such as MAC filter, Change channel/frequency band, view connected devices etc.

As you can see in the comments to this answer ther IS a way to do this. It's documented for FreeBSD (which is not Ubuntu/Linux) here: -to-multiple-ap-with-one-wifi-adapter-under-linux-freebsd (Link from the comment). It does not seem to work exactly the same way on Linux, but it should be similar. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find more detailed information about this topic.

The probably easiest and most common way is using two physical network interfaces. So you may buy another wifi stick or just use another technology to connect further and do just one of them via Wifi. The possibilities are for example:

Once I noticed that Ubuntu Linux is capable of managing two wifi devices at once without being complicated. I did not test this in ways of sharing the internet connection etc, but it should be possible. The way how complicated it will be is probably depending of the type of connections you use. On Linux you probably do not need and kind of special software. It should be possible to share connections without the need for any special tools. Unfortunately I cannot try it at this time.

I recommend you try Wifi to Wifi if you have another wifi stick anyway and otherwise LAN or Bluetooth (which is built-in in most notebooks). 3G/LTE sharing is a bit bad because of providers dataplans and so on.

How to configure the Ubuntu/Xubuntu PC as a WiFi hotspot (ex: for use in airports or on airplanes in order to share a single, paid connection from your PC with your phone and other devices):

on latest ubuntu (04.20) - there is a built in options in the wifi settings.so when you turn on wifi, you have the 3-dots button on top - one of the options there is "turn on hotspot", there, you'll set the wifi SSID and password, and that's it.Note: every wifi adapter can be used only for one action at once - or hotspot of connect to network. so if you have only one adapter and you're connected only via wifi - won't do...

I'm trying to play a video game with my friends that requires a local wifi network that allows UDP broadcasts. The dorm wifi doesn't allow UDP broadcasts, so I'm trying to set up my laptop as a hotspot. Windows 10 by default allows you to share an internet connection over wifi, but you must have an internet connection to do so. Sharing the wifi connection results in a lot of problems such as constant disconnects, and I don't have access to an ethernet connection to share. Is there some way I can set up a wifi network without actually sharing an internet connection?

4.) After that run the command, netsh wlan start hostednetwork, to start the "Hotspot" broadcast. Right now you can play without internet connection after all devices connect. Remember to check IP addresses of all your individual devices in order to connect to each other. The hotspot's IP Address usually is "192.168.137.1".

Unless the mobile device has some kind of protection on it then it would have to be the network on the hotspot but since you tried different devices that seems less likely. Maybe try to reflash the RS2? I would send a full system report to sup...@emlid.com and they will get you taken care of. Make sure to keep us updated though.

Only way I can get it to work is,
turn off auto join on all other networks in iphones list
connect to RS2 hot spot
use rv2 or 3, select your stored, manually entered phone hotspot click join
do the mad race to turn on your phones hotspot
wait and hope it connects.

Could you clarify what model do you have? If you have iPhone 12 series, you need to enable Maximize compatibility option on its Personal hotspot page. This will switch its hotspot to 2.4 GHz and ensure connection to the device.

As you will see, or maybe already know, Ideally you need to connect your PC with ethernet cable to a 1gig router and use it's dedicated 5Ghz wifi as close by as possible. Wifi-only and wifi hotspots do not work well so do not believe everything you see on YouTube. Even the Virtual Desktop developer states that wifi hotspots (esp. ones using a pcie card) are not a good alternative.

The only alternative for reasonable results in your case may be to get yourself a dedicated Router and connect your PC to it and use it's wifi. However, without it being wired to your main router you will not have internet access. There are apparently some high end (and probably expensive) routers that will allow your main router to broadcast to your dedicated router but this requires a bit of know-how to setup.

A little update in case someone find this thread, my laptop has an intel ax200 that supports both bands, so I connect to the internet with 2.4GHz and make a hotspot with 5GHz to connect with the oculus. The experience it's quite enjoyable. I think I may be able to play even from a hotel room with this setup.

My computer has a wifi 6 card it allows me to do bridged connection to a device. but i just connect to a wifi 6 to a standard wifi 6 router "as if its wired" and i get decent results. 1200 mbps and about 30ish ms of lag.

If you were about to spend money anyway, buy a router. Skip all the network card stuff, all the hotspot, a simple router is all you need. mine cost me like 40$USD it is wifi6 nothing fancy, and i am VD user, it has been rock solid for the past 2 years, like rock solid!. I dont want to say the model i am using here but PM is welcomed.

So essentially, connect your pc to the router you bought via cable, and bridge the wifi your house sends out, try to set a new wifi off your new router and name it differently and only use 5G band (important). And thats it. for me i use powerline to connect to the home router wiredly. It is hassle free, always works, and now i even have my small LAN i can use among all my devices.

Citation needed. I keep seeing people sating this but cannot find any evidence of it so I would love to see where this has originally come from. I use a usb wifi adapter and it's totally fine at 1200mbps on VD.

We make it easy to get online with an SPL HotSpot. If you have a Library card, you can check out a hotspot for free. Then use it to connect your tablet, laptop or other Wi-Fi-enabled device to 4G LTE and 3G networks. You can borrow an SPL HotSpot for 21 days.

There is no charge to borrow and use an SPL HotSpot. You can check out and use a mobile hotspot for free for 21 days, just like other Library materials. Hotspots are subject to the usual charges for lost materials. If you lose the hotspot or damage it beyond repair, we will charge a $90 fee to your Library account.

You can borrow an SPL HotSpot for 21 days. You can get free internet access with the hotspot during that time. There are many people waiting to borrow an SPL HotSpot, so please return the hotspot on time. The mobile hotspot will stop giving you access to the internet within 24 hours after the due date. You can renew a hotspot if no one else is waiting to borrow it. However, there is often a very long waiting list for hotspots. To renew a hotspot, log into your account or visit any Library location.

You can return the hotspot to any Library location or book return, just like other items. Please help us get the hotspot quickly to the next person waiting for it. You can do this by fully charging the battery before you return the hotspot. Also, please return the hotspot with all its original packaging and accessories.

You can use the hotspot to browse the internet and send email. You can even use it to call people with services like Skype, FaceTime, and WhatsApp. There are many ways the hotspot can help you connect with friends and family. One thing it cannot do, though, is support texting and SMS messaging.

The Library regularly assesses our hotspot devices and consults with our Internet Service Provider to offer the best hotspot service to our patrons. From time to time, we may upgrade our devices to reflect changes in the hotspot market. Updated instructions and links to device user manuals will always be included when a device is upgraded.
