The issue of 'media offline' is a common stumbling block for many newcomers to DaVinci Resolve. Unlinked clips, strangely encoded materials, inconsistent frame rates - the causes behind 'media offline' are diverse and myriad.

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned user of DaVinci Resolve, this checklist will help you quickly identify the root of your offline media DaVinci Resolve issue. Without further ado, let's get started!

This represents the most common 'Media Offline' scenario in DaVinci Resolve. So, when you encounter 'Media Offline' while using DaVinci Resolve, your first step should be to recall whether you have moved or deleted any source materials.

When you unintentionally move or delete any source material, it's highly likely that you haven't properly managed your media in DaVinci Resolve. Don't underestimate the importance of organizing your media clips.

However, organizing assets effectively in DaVinci Resolve is not an easy task, especially when your project has a multitude of chaotic media clips. This is where TourBox, the creative tool, can come in handy.

Sometimes you may encounter this situation: you can import materials, but they immediately show as offline. If you drag these materials onto the timeline and try to play them, you'll find that although the visuals are offline, you can still hear the audio.

We'll need two tools for this. One is Mediainfo, used to check the type of frame rate. The other is Handbrake, which can convert VFR (Variable Frame Rate) materials to CFR (Constant Frame Rate) materials.

The above steps should solve the majority of variable frame rate issues. Once we re-import the re-encoded video materials into DaVinci Resolve, we shouldn't encounter audio sync or offline frame issues anymore.

The most important point to emphasize is that if we take note of this issue during the preliminary stages and set all shooting modes to a constant frame rate, we will save a lot of precious time and won't have to deal with such issues in post-production.

Customizing TourBox according to your specific needs is a breeze. With just one hand controlling TourBox, you can accomplish various tedious operations with fewer actions, greatly boosting your efficiency.

A common reason for DaVinci Resolve media offline error is unlinked clips this happens when you move the original clip to a new folder or drive. Therefore, the imported clips lose the link to the source footage on the computer.

To fix DaVinci Resolve media offline caused by unlinked clips, you should select the clips with Media Offline error on the timeline, right-click on them, choose Relink Selected Clips, and browse for the folder that contains the source footage.

This DaVinci Resolve media offline error might be caused by H.265 HEVC code especially if your video is recorded on an iPhone, GoPro camera, or DJI drone. These devices can record high-resolution videos compressed in HEVC format in H.265 video codec.

The media offline error in DaVinci Resolve may be also caused by the render cache files. Tyr to delete render cache files to fix it. Click Playback > Delete Render Cache > All.

MiniTool MovieMaker is one of the best DaVinci Resolve alternatives for beginners to edit videos. This application allows you to crop, trim, rotate, and split videos, apply video filters & transitions, add titles/captions/credits, and more.

There are multiple reasons that cause the offline media issue or error to pop up in DaVinci Resolve. Some of the most common ones include unlinked clips, deleted or missing video files, footage shot in H.265 HEVC codec, etc.

When a clip within Resolve goes missing, the video editing software denotes it with a question mark in the timeline. If you accidentally delete a file from the Media Pool, it automatically means you get a missing clip in the timeline.

Besides meeting DaVinci Resolve system requirements, it is imperative to ensure that you are using the latest version and have the latest GPU drivers for Studio to have a smooth user experience without any errors.

As a novice or professional video editor, you can also avoid these errors by making sure your codec is DaVinci-friendly. Alternatively, using DaVinci Resolve and other popular post-production tools on Postudio frees you from any worries concerning updates. Join our community to make creative work convenient.

Start by examining your media pool. The media pool is where all your clips are organized and accessed within DaVinci Resolve. If your files are showing as offline, the source folders or the original location of these files may have been altered. Check if the media files in your project have been moved to a different folder or if the external hard drive where they are stored is appropriately connected.

If your media is stored on an external hard drive, ensure it is properly connected. Issues with offline frames can often be traced back to external storage devices not recognized by your system. Reconnecting the drive or restarting your computer can sometimes fix this.

Lastly, if the problem persists, consider seeking professional support. DaVinci Resolve has a support team, and their website offers a comprehensive search tool for troubleshooting. Additionally, consider watching video tutorials; many professionals share their insights on platforms like YouTube, offering step-by-step guides on resolving various issues, including the media offline problem.

I recently migrated my cloud storage provider from Dropbox to Box. I transferred all active projects and their cloud assets to Box during this process. When I reopened an existing DaVinci Resolve Studio project, none of the files were offline. Uh oh.

The issue was that several files seemingly at random were offline. I could view them in the Media page but once I dragged them in to the project, they would go offline. The source file path was wrong. Whenver I tried to change it, it would go back to the old one. The solution is to clear that file path and prevent DaVinci Resolve from auto-correcting your fix with the wrong one.

Clicking on the little angry red “Relink Files” chain icon brought nothing back. No files were relinked. Even if I selected an individual file and navigated to the new folder with that exact file, the Relink Files function would not be able to find the file. I googled around for an answer and couldn’t find any, so I decided to write up what methods have worked for me in case you, too, have this same frustration.

Do remember that if you are using a cloud provider and you haven’t marked the files for offline usage, your Davinci Resolve project will freeze until all files are downloaded. Set your project folder to offline access to prevent this issue from happening again.

The answer is simple: change the source folder, then relink. DaVinci Resolve has two stages of file relinking. It has the file-level “Relink Files” function that we’re familiar with, but this appears to only work within the source folder. If the files are moved out of the source folder (and I don’t know how far out since Dropbox starts after C:\\\\Users\\\\Name\\\\Dropbox), then Relink Files will not work.

Highlight all of your project files. Right-click and select “Change Source Folder.” In the dialogue, browse for the new source folder. Mine happened to be the same project folder but with a Box filepath, rather than a Dropbox filepath (those cloud storage names are so similar!). Accept the change.

Make sure the file path in Change Source Folder is correct. It took me a second to realize that this is a clickable input box. In the past, I’ve had DaVinci duplicate the source folder path in the “To:” input area, showing the C:\\\\ path twice. Media would not link, so check that.

It sounds dumb, I know, but in my experience, DaVinci has randomly unlinked several clips inside a project, but not all clips. Some just won’t link! It makes no sense. It must be a bug. I’ve pulled hair out over this. The simplist solution for me was to:

For me, things immediately synced back up. I think it’s an issue in DaVinci Resolve with file path naming. In my case, changing source folder wasn’t clearing the old source folder file path (even if I left it blank). The action was just adding the new file path after the one.

Fingers crossed this works for you! It’s such a bummer not being able to resync files. This project I was working on has about a dozen episodes an hour or more in length. Not being able to resync that content would have been terrible.

Hi, I've been cutting BRAW BMPC6K footage in premiere. Today I've been having a lot of stability issues. Premiere changed the color of my footage when loading, and a lot of my preview files stopped working. Seems strange that all this happened after a new update got pushed out. I restarted, and now my footage is offline, and I cannot link the media again. I've been bouncing back between the two available versions of premiere that I can find, and installing different versions of the codec to no success.

One of the issues with the BlackMagic plugin is it doesn't always install itself properly. One of the Autokroma engineers has a couple posts in another thread on BM BRAW where he goes through the process of properly installing the BM plugin manually. That might help you a lot.
