When is a ferret NOT for you?

They are really loveable and brilliant, but please, please, do NOT get a ferret if:
you'd keep him / her in a cage all the time
it would be a present for a little kid and nobody would take care of it once the kid gets bored with him / her
you would treat her / him like a dog / cat: ferrets are different from both of them
you cannot be bothered reading after their keeping: there's not much hassle with them but there's a couple of simple rules that are essential to keep
you don't have the patience to teach him / her in your first 2 weeks

I am only posting it as I hear so many sad stories about people not caring about ferrets, giving away ferrets as the kids are not interested anymore. They can really stick to people they live with so cannot be given away like a fluffy toy once the baby grows up... It is responsibility. Not as much care as a dog would need but still, "you became responsible, forever for what you have tamed". (high five if you know where this is from... I hope someone will know...)
