Is there some sort of notification that appears in the center of the screen showing the volume meter upon change, similar to Windows or Ubuntu machines? Do any of these work well in lightweight desktops (dwm, no notification area) and provide instant feedback upon change in volume?
Well, volwheel is a tray icon. I don't have a system tray and don't plan on adding one. Usually, on Windows/Ubuntu/Mac systems, when one changes the volume with the keyboard, a small meter with a volume icon displays near the center of the screen, showing the volume meter as it changes. this is what I'm talking about. Is there anything like this for Arch linux that's nice and light, with few dependencies and little resource usage?
Thanks! that worked, except I have a problem with notify-osd. It always appears too far in the top right of my screen, so it ends up covering my status bar. Is there any way to center the notify-osd window?
i use my own script ossvol which changes my ossvolume and displays a nice dzen notifacation center screen. it's a modifacation to bruenig's dvol script (just forum search dvol) which does the same thing for alsa. the script itself is very readable so you can adjust color/positioning of the dzen bar. sounds like what you're looking for.
Very interesting. I'll definitely check that out if I can't get notify-osd to work how I want. I finally got the nice icons from ubuntu in it and it displays volume changes with no delay, so hopefully I can move the window (even a little bit down would be ok, as long as my status bar isn't covered)
I have one that is based on the vol.sh script... There are switches that can be added to change the position of the osd overlay. I have mine in the bottom center of my screen. I'ld post the changes, but I'm not at my computer right now.
I've noticed that my battery meter/AC power icon has disappeared from my system tray. I'm not sure how to make it reappear. I'm not even sure how it suddenly disappeared in the first place. The reason why I want this icon to always be there is so that I can tell how much battery power I have left on my laptop. Also, when I am charging my laptop battery and letting my laptop run on AC power, the battery icon turns into the AC power icon.
I'm afraid I haven't a solution for you, KiKi, just because I'm having the same issue with my Vostro 1500 (which is, I believe, very similar to your 1520, at least on the inside). One question... are you running XP or Vista? I have XP and the only thing I can possibly relate it to is SP-3, which also seemed to make my volume control icon go bye-bye!
Thereal-dbk4297--The battery icon doesn't appear at all, and when the power adapter is connected, the AC icon doesn't appear either. I checked the Quickset program settings, and there's no option at all to make the icons disappear.
I've had the same problem and it was solved by doing the following... Rt click on desktop - Lt click on properties - Rt click screensaver tab - at the bottom of that tab there is a power settings button, Rt click it - Rt click the advanced tab - Make sure that the box is checked next to "Always show icon on the taskbar" - as long as there is a check mark you should be good.... If it is already checked, Uncheck it and apply then recheck it then apply and you're good to go...HOPE THAT HELPS
Now I have a related question if anyone can help... Whether my computer is plugged in or not the icon never changes from "On AC Power" even if the computer shuts off from lack of power it still says its on ac power????????
If it comes up with a check nest to the "locked taskbar", remove that check then proceed with right click on desktop, left click on properties. Now make sure all the icons you want to show are checked. Hope this will be helpful, good luck
I had the same problem after running a malware program. I went to supportsection, selected my computer & downloaded the Dell quickset driver. After reinstalling it everything showed up again. Hope this helps.
this is really simple fix... no need for any tools for this..
Right click on "Task Bar" and choose "Properties".
Choose "Notification Area" -> click on "Customize", then click on "Default Settings".
Click on OK and click on OK to close the properties window.
Open "Task Manager" (use Ctl+Alt+Del or right click on taskbar)
Click on process tab, choose "explorer.exe" -> click on "End process"
click on "File" menu and type "Explorer.exe" and click on OK.
Now again open the task bar properties, choose "Notification Area" now put a check mark on the icons which you want."
We'll be continuing to monitor this feedback, but with the updates we made for the new tablet-optimized taskbar in Build 22563, we're no longer supporting dragging icons between the system tray and the show hidden icons flyout. Instead, you should use the Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > System tray section to manage these icons.
@plokert I think all you can do is stop / restart explorer.exe (Windows Explorer) in task manager and hopefully the icons will come back. I'm sure I saw some people mention this problem in the feedback hub.
Found a solution to moving the order of the icons. If you go to Settins/Personlization/Taskbar/Other System Tray Icons, then turn off all the icons that are not hidden, at that point turn each back on, but turn them on in the order you want them to display and they will stay in that order. Haven't tried restarting yet, though, to see if it holds. Maybe later today.
Taskbar is just a mess icons wont go away when closing the application, need to kill explorer and restart, cant drag icons and if i choice to show all icons the expanding icon is empty but still there. Just pull this change back its not convienent or good, allso when pressing on the clock i wish to see the clock with seconds counting not just minutes, im Stock trader i really need Seconds showing, why making this Windows less user friendly then it is, the the rest of the changes are good and on start button let me remove recent and recommended part completly noone uses this like EVER it does not help us. We will put programs we like on the Start meny and use them.
@knight117 I'm unable to open windows... windows button on my task menu also doesn't work... nor does it work on my keyboard. All apps on my taskbar (bottom) work, but windows button does not... so cannot lock or anything...
I'm looking for a visual indicator that my microphone is actually picking up sound for my system tray, so I can tell at a glance that it's working without launching/switching to a different application, or asking the people I'm in a meeting with if it's working.
I originally designed these audio level meter programs to allow the optimum setting of input levels for various sound recording functions, particularly for video editing. When capturing video and sound from different sources accurate level setting helps maintain a consistency of volume across various clips, and therefore eases the sound mixing.
LXQt Panel is the bar situated at the bottom of your screen by default. The panel contains an application menu, a desktop switcher, a quicklaunch bar, a taskbar, a system tray containing applets, and a clock. The panel is highly configurable with a number of settings and plugins which is detailed in the Customizing section and also contains how to add or remove applets.
The application menu allows you to browse and search through available programs; a keyboard shortcut is conveniently available for this and is set to Super(Windows) by default. The menu has many subcategories to launch each application. The Leave menu has options to Hibernate, Leave, Logout, Reboot, Shutdown, or Suspend. If you want to lock your screen use Lock Screen. If you want to lock your screen select Lock Screen. If you mouseover a program you can see a description of that program in the menu. To go back one level or close the root level of the menu press the Escape key. The desktop switcher allows you to switch to another virtual desktop, allowing you to keep your workspace organized by left clicking on the desktop number or using the mousewheel to change desktops. To see your desktop names simply mouseover the desktop number to see the desktop name.
The quick launch bar allows you to conveniently launch your file manager (PCManFM) and web browser (Firefox) by left clicking on the program. If you right click on the icons in quick launch on something like Firefox will have items for each program. To add a program to quick launch open the menu and find it there and drag it down onto the panel. To move an item on your quick launch to the left right click the icon and select Move left or press Control and drag the icon to the left. To move an item to the left right click the icon and select Move right or press Control and drag the icon to the right. Another way to reorder items on quicklaunch is to hold Control and drag and drop to the desired position. To remove an item from quick launch right click on the icon and select Remove from quicklaunch. To show your desktop press the blue show desktop button between quick launch and the taskbar. To see all your windows again press the blue show desktop button again.
The taskbar lists the windows you currently have open. To bring one of these windows to focus simply left click the button with icon and name on the task bar. If you have multiple of the same window left clicking will open the group, allowing you to select between the different windows by left clicking. If you want to close a group of multiple windows you can right click the group and click Close group. To see a list of all the windows in a group mouseover the group of windows on the taskbar. If you want to close one window out of a particular group left click to bring up the single window and then right click on the window and select Close.
