Hello IDA Supporter!

The 2020 legislative session is right around the corner, and we need your help to make sure that all Legislators understand the importance of taking action in support of IDAs. We need you all, and all of the partners and savers you can reach out to, to take action. We’re doing our best to be sure you all have all the tools you need to take action! Thank you for those that have already helped raise awareness about the need to keep IDAs whole.

What you can do right now:
  1. Endorse. Individuals and Organizations can click here to endorse the IDA legislative ask for 2020.
Neighborhood Partnerships (NP) will provide regular updates as we go
through the 2020 legislative session to everyone that endorses the
           legislative ask.
  1. Email your legislators. Take 5 minutes to email your legislators about the importance of IDAs for you and your community.
Contact Your Legislators by using this
           link- https://prosperitynow.quorum.us/campaign/23191/ or text
OREGONIDA to 1-855-471-6140 and you’ll receive a link on your cell
           phone (regular text rates apply).
  1. Forward this to your savers (past and present) and your partners, so they can also email their legislators and endorse the IDA Legislative ask!
What we’re asking:
The Oregon Individual Development Account (IDA) Initiative helps build hope by creating stronger financial futures for Oregon individuals and families with low incomes. Its flexibility supports the unique approaches of culturally specific, rural, and urban partners as they work with individuals and families to buy homes, get an education, start small businesses, and reach other goals.

Because of changes in federal tax law and IRS code that affect state tax credits like the one that funds the IDA Initiative, the Initiative is facing significant funding shortfalls. In spite of action the shortfalls from the Initiative’s 2018 budget of $10.8 million are at least $2 million in 2019 and $2.5 million in 2020, plus unsold 2019 tax credits totaling $2.6 million.

We need action in the 2020 session to keep the IDA Initiative working in Oregon. We cannot afford to lose one of the few tools we have that strengthens families and communities as it invests in the long term financial security of people with lower incomes. The 2020 legislative session begins February 3rd, and we need your help to make sure that everyone understands the importance of taking action in support of IDAs! Ask your legislator to make sure they let Legislative leaders and budget writers know action is needed!

Want to stay up-to date on IDA legislative news? Join our weekly call!
Stay up to date on our 2020 Oregon IDA Legislative Campaign! We will be having two short 30 minute calls a week to keep everyone updated on the latest in the short session. These calls will start on February 3rd and they will continue the rest of session (with the exception of Thursday February 20th which is our IDA lobby day). Written updates will go out every Friday to those that have endorsed.
Assets & Housing Opportunity Day
Registration is open!
Registration is now open for the 2020 Assets and Housing Opportunity Day! Join us at the Capitol on February 20, 2020 to share what it means to have access to housing opportunity and assets. If you are an IDA saver or a resident of affordable housing, we'd love to have you join us. You can see the details and sign up here. Space is limited, and we're prioritizing participation by people most impacted by these issues.

Training is available! If you've never been to one of these days at the Capitol before, we want to help make sure you feel ready to join us! The registration form has dates for trainings in Eugene, Woodburn, Portland, and via phone/video. Check it out! Email Reyna with questions.
