I downloaded and installed the new Norton Driver Updater yesterday and all the updates seemed fine with the exception for the update of the PCI Express Root Complex driver, which essentially got stuck in the "waiting" mode (see screenshot) and have stayed stuck ever since.

Subsequent research on my part has led me to believe that I may actually be better off not updating PCI Express Root Complex as many have had PC performance problems after the update. For this reason, I don't want to update this driver but I don't know how I should interpret the "waiting" mode (which stays on after rebooting the PC), and more importantly how to simply undo the attempted update.

If you click on the right arrow ">" next to the word "waiting" the little black disc gives the options to either skip the update or ignore the driver - use this to remove the "waiting" state and cancel the update.

CCleaner has the same issue and I wonder why this has started happening only in the last few days. For what it's worth Microsoft community users say that it is best not to update drivers on the recommendation of a driver updater.

My problem is on my wife's computer, ASUS T100, and the Updater has jammed the whole system - the screen has a 'You have 1 outdated driver' image that I cannot remove - the cursor is not visible - and the touch screen is no longer working! When I try to restart the whole system, the computer simply goes back to the same place and nothing works! How do I get rid of the program and get back to being able to operate the computer at all? Frustrating!

Thanks for all comments! My problem was on my wife's computer and the program ended up stopping anything from happening - no cursor, no touch screen, not able to stop the program even re-booting etc. I eventually managed to get some access by using the keys and tabbing etc - a painful process! I've now deleted the driver update program and had to update the my Windows etc - but still trying to get to a usable computer!

Yeah Lugar52, I also agree with GM Burgess255 about leaving it alone. I've used driver updater programmes for years but never had anything like this sort of trouble, Norton have outdone themselves in producing the WORST programme in the history of computing and using us as guinea pigs to sort out the bugs. Good luck mate.

The problem with the PCI Express Root Complex driver will be fixed in the next version. In fact this is an inbox driver which is a native driver that is supplied with the Operating System and don't need an update. We stopped already offering this update for new users, for existing users this wil be fixed soon. There is no reason to updated the installed driver.

The "Waiting" problem is also fixed with the next update.

Again: The Driver Updater is not a beta product. The offered drivers are collected, analyzed and tested internally since years. We have millions of drivers in our database! Of course there can be issues within this amount of drivers. However, we are constantly trying to eliminate these problems. There are a handful of people here on the forum with problems which we take very seriously. But this does not mean that the product causes problems in the big mass. And I try to solve all problems here!

LAC. If you cannot get the Driver Updater to uninstall, follow this Microsoft article to perform a "system restore", using a restore point PRIOR to installing driver updater. Use the second link and follow the instructions in the area labeled "Restore from a system restore point". When the recovery is successful DO NOT reinstall nor use Driver Updater. The same scenario will more likely than not reappear if you do.

I currently utilize a scheduled task to run ccleaner and have a custom ccleaner.ini built. What I cannot figure out is how to disable the driver updater feature in the ccleaner.ini file. Does anyone have any information regarding this? I do not want the driver updater to run at all, it continues to update my laptop display drivers on two of my gaming machines and messes up the nvidia drivers that auto switch my display from intel to nvidia. I have tried to open the program and unselect drivers but it doesn't seem to hold, so I am just looking to disable this feature all together and be done with this headache.

CCleaners Driver Updater will not run unless you click on it and then scan/update your drivers. Don't click on it and it will never run.
CCleaners Driver Updater will only update drivers if you tell it to do so in the CCleaner Pro version, it will not update drivers in the CCleaner Free version.

If something is updating your drivers automatically then it is not CCleaner.
It might be Windows Update, or it might be some other Driver Updater that you have installed. (Maybe accidentally?).

The issue with opening up firewall permissions, is I have them blocked for a reason. It's not worth it to allow microsoft's electric eye to shine its pale malevolent glow on me, just for a simple updater tool.

Same happened to me too. It took ages to run the Driver updater for the 5 drivers announced, next thing I see is that a new start was started (without my ok) and then a blue screen, which I couldn't get out of.

I paid for a pro version especially to get the driver updater, but this gave me more grief than I needed at that particular time. You have obviously bitten off more than you can chew. Never again. I feel I have been cheated.

Yes, the driver updater has an unpleasant habit of ignoring the fact that some of the updates require immediate restarts. It just keeps grinding away. This means that one gets the NBA (Nasty Blue Screen) at restart, and the only way back is to re-install Windows 10 and rebuild the PC from scratch. This has happened to me twice in the past week. The only work-around is to run the updates one at a time, which is very time-consuming, and certainly no better than any of the free tools that allow one-at-a-time installation of multiple driver updates.

yeah BIFF same thing happened to me...... My Toughbook Panasonic Military Laptop CF-31 MK4 both are bricked. After being on CCleaner for thousands of years, I was hesitant to install CCLeaner on my Military Laptops, but after installing CCleaner updated all my drivers through Microsoft, I used their CCleaner New Update Driver Program ... said it needed to update 21 drivers, Wuuuuuut ? Seriously

So I opted to use that service after accepting the 14 day trial. It started updating all my 21 drivers I needed, after reset my Supervisor Password was changed. I know my password because I've been using the same password for 20 years, and I know I'm not stupid, my password doesn't work anymore so I know for 1,000 % fact that CCLeaner changed my Supervisor PWD. But CCleaner says no !!!! and after reading your issue regarding your computer being BRICKED. Man what a relief ... so I know I'm not lying or stupid. CCleaner has to believe me now because I have $2K worth of laptops just sitting here BRICKED, it's so upsetting to the point I'm trying to calm myself after these engineers are telling me that's impossible. Well you know in the computer world impossible can be possible. Not all software's are perfect in any which way.

It's upsetting ... my blood is boiling, I know my password and I know CCleaner is responsible for this problem they have with their UPDATE DRIVER program. I hope they fix it .... if they can't at least send me 2 BIOS Chips at $24.00 ea. and I'll fix it myself and replace the BIOS with a non password. Then I'll shut up and not bad mouth CCleaner for their software mistake. Coders aren't perfect.

Hi Lageeks, CCleaner could not help me at all. Whatever got into my desktop during the CCleaner driver update managed to get into my laptop because of my stupidity in using a flash drive between them in an attempt to fix the desktop. I had to take it into a computer repair shop and luckily I had a complete backup on a separate hard drive but it cost me near $200. The laptop was a hopeless case so I just switched it over to Linux.

Driver updater programs (eg. WinZip driver updater) finds lots of outdated drivers while in the scan only mode. Then, when you purchase the program, the new drivers are "found" immediately, and no new drivers are needed again for a long time. Or worse, when the program is purchased, all drivers are miraculously up to date. I come to this conclusion because when running WinZip driver free scan version updater, it sometimes finds no drivers out of date, and sometimes finds 22 drivers out of date. It makes me suspicous. When I contacted their tech support, the only answer I got was to buy the program!!?
