After a chance opportunity to purchase a pink food truck, brothers Blake and Brandon Barkdull started selling ice cream sandwiches in 2015. Last summer, they opened up a Provo storefront to make the sandwiches even more accessible. One look at their social media and you can tell they are having a good time running the business, which carries over to its customers.
Much of the fun is in playing around with all of the possible flavor combinations. The menu offers suggestions of popular combinations, like Inception, chocolate chip and double fudge cookies with cookie monster ice cream, Ron Burgundy, snickerdoodle cookies with strawberry Nutella ice cream, or my personal favorite, Golden Snitch, honeycomb ice cream sandwiched between oatmeal cookies. Get as creative as you want by pairing cookies with a variety of unique flavors, like fruity pebbles, lemon raspberry chip, and salted caramel pretzel.
You can bring The Penguin Brothers to your wedding or any other type of private event. The Barkdull brothers hope to expand north with new locations at some point. For now, it is certainly worth a trip to Provo now to try out the ice cream treats!
After more than a year of running a food truck for ice cream sandwiches, Blake and Bradnon Barkdull have opened their newest venture, the Penguin Brothers' brick and mortar ice cream shop. Pictured is the grand opening event Friday, April 14, 2017 in Provo. DOMINIC VALENTE, Daily Herald
Originally from the California Bay Area, Brandon and Blake Barkdull moved to Utah to go to school. They started their business venture, the Penguin Brothers, and began selling ice cream sandwiches from their 1980s pink food truck in January 2016.
Their new bright pink retail location in the rear of the 1273 N. Canyon Road building is hard to miss and a carryover from their food truck theme. The Penguin Brothers said in a press release they are hoping to offer their customers a permanent location to receive their love for their fresh ice cream-and-cookie sandwiches.
The brothers committed to the organization after learning of several relatives who have died from the disease. They have become very involved in the program and are heading to Samoa with a board of certified cardiologists, a team of echocardiograph technicians, students and instructors from Brigham Young University to help Samoan children.
Once upon a time, two brothers had a passion and love for dessert. One loved ice cream. The other loved cookies. Thus their unique idea of Penguin Brothers was born. These two, sold their ice cream cookie sandwiches in a pink food truck. As they first got their start by having a transportable pink truck, they eventually opened up two storefronts. One in Provo , and one in Sugarhouse. If you have an event coming up, there are even options for catering if you want it to be at your next event!
If you are looking for a good option for dinner nearby the Sugarhouse location, check out this post here! Penguin Brothers is a good option for ice cream, but, if you are looking for other good options for dessert in Salt Lake, you should check out this post!

During the events of the Shutdown, this blue penguin had been protecting two female penguins, one of which was his sister - the Pigtailed Girl Penguin. A few days before the events of The Gang, all three of them went into the Tuba Gang's hideout to hide from bad guys, not knowing that their shelter of choice was actually Tuba Gang turf. Because of this, the Brother and his two companions were forced to keep themselves hidden to avoid getting caught by the Tuba Gang.
When Lil Jeffy entered the Tuba Gang's hideout to escape the Cannibal, the Brother asked Lil Jeffy if the coast was clear, and then revealed himself after seeing that there were no Tuba Gang members in sight. He explained his situation to Lil Jeffy, and then beckoned his friends to escape while they still could, but the Tuba Gang arrived before they could leave.
When questioned by the Tuba Gang Leader, the Brother tried to reason with him, explaining that he and his two companions didn't mean to trespass, but the Tuba Gang Leader noticed that his cart of mushroom bags was missing and blamed the Brother for it. The Brother tried to explain that he didn't do anything with the minecart, but that didn't satisfy the Tuba Gang Leader, so he had his men beat up the Brother to get his friends to spill the beans. They wound up beating him to death, which finally got the Pigtailed Girl Penguin to tell the Tuba Gang about Lil Jeffy.
The Girl Penguin with Bow was probably, at best, an acquaintance of the Brother. It was revealed in The Agent that she barely knew the Brother and only cared about him because he was keeping her safe. After the Tuba Gang Leader took her to be his girlfriend, she stopped concerning herself with the Brother's death.
