An exhibition of sculptures and drawings marking St Brigid's Day.

 

This exhibition traces a lineage of women whose lives unfolded within religious communities between the sixth and sixteenth centuries. Beginning with St Brigid and extending through Julian of Norwich, Hildegard of Bingen, and the Renaissance painter Plautilla Nelli. These figures embody a spectrum of creative and spiritual vocations—healer, mystic, writer, musician, and painter. The cloak serves as the central metaphor of the exhibition. It becomes a non-figurative embodiment of the collective experience of these women: a form that contains, protects, and simultaneously reveals and withholds. Through this symbolic gesture, the exhibition honours the profound, lasting influence of these women—not through depiction, but through the evocative presence of what remains when literal representation is set aside.

Jane Clarke will open the exhibition and read one of her poems on St Brigid entitled 'Legend'.

 

 

Exhibition continues Monday-Friday 09:30-17:00 and Saturday and Sunday 12:00-18:00 until March 13^th
