Dear Feminist Liberation Theologians’ Network Colleagues,

Warm greetings between our fall and spring meetings, at a time when war is raging on several fronts. That we are connected and working on varied issues around the world moving in the direction of peace gives me some solace. I write to invite you to join the FLTN Forum of ideas, resources, and support.

It was important, and a pleasure, to connect with one another in late November 2025 in Boston and on Zoom when we discussed the “Break the Glass” moment in which we found ourselves. Kwok Pui-Lan proclaimed that feminist liberation theology is more important than ever. Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite called us to disrupt the rising fascism through non-violent means. Rita Nakashima Brock lifted up moral injury as the source of so much suffering in devastating times. Reports from regions gave us good insights into what is happening in various places.

As insightful and prescient as these speakers were, I don’t think any of us could have anticipated the scope and depth of the current global crisis. Then, we were talking about Gaza and Israel, Ukraine and Russia. Now, we are talking about all of that, plus a war in Iran sparked by the United States and Israel now involving at least fifteen countries. It is calamitous and terrifying with repercussions throughout the world.

After our meeting, I toyed with the idea of a public statement from FLTN. In consultation with some colleagues, I concluded that no one speaks for this group so it is better not to do something disingenuous. We are a loosely affiliated “network” engaged in similar tasks around the world. So it makes sense to do what we do best—discuss ideas, share resources, and provide support.

To that end, I propose that we use our Google list to post materials for common use. For example, I am hoping that Kwok and Susan will post links to their Podcasts and Substacks so that we can all use them (subscribe if you can, of course). There are other key analytic articles that we can share from many sources across the world. You can write something to bring our attention to an issue or example of FLTN in action.

Feel free to make a short video and put it up on our Google drive at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NZJEqNXLj0nAvfJe7IHE97ZchYBSJJB_?usp=drive_link.

Lay out your ideas in clear, concise terms, not as a paper for a professional meeting, but perhaps as a memo to your colleagues or a short report to your friends. Our strength is in the variety of our voices, starting points, and perspectives. Our superpower is our commitment to using feminist liberation theological, ethics, and ritual resources for the common good.
