As you all surely know, it's red alert for Cuba.

The US is preparing the pieces for an invasion of the island state. The anti-Cuba propaganda machine is rolling. A US carrier task force is now within striking distance. The US energy blockade continues to force rolling blackouts and acute shortages. Last week, Cuba's energy minister said the country had "absolutely no" diesel and "absolutely no" fuel oil. "We have no more reserves," he said.

The script is too tired even for Hollywood -- a peaceful, sovereign neighbor, under siege, is recast as a threat.  And a people denied fuel because of a US blockade (no fuel means no electricity: everything stops) is recast as proof of failure of the socialist government.

What can WE do as US Citizens for Peace & Justice?

The CTC, the largest union in Cuba, has sent out a call to people around the world to join their campaign "Cuba is not alone" and sign their global petition for peace, sovereignty, and solidarity with the Cuban people.

You can sign it online here: http://www.firmoporcuba.com

More importantly, you can collect signatures on the forms (to be printed up) available here: https://www.firmoporcuba.com/print

Collecting signatures is especially important because the act of signing a sheet creates greater involvement than clicking on a web page button.  Also the person to person contact in favor of Cuba is powerful -- much more so than the anti Cuban slurs in much of the mass media.

If you do collect signatures (no matter if they are just a few), the CTC union asks you to send them in an envelope to your local Cuban embassy.  Here in Rome it's: Embassy of Cuba, Via Licinia 7, 00153 Rome.  In the US it's Embassy of Cuba, 2630 16th street NW, Washington, D.C. 20009.

The campaign "Cuba is not alone" has two aims: First, it shows the Cuban people that, in fact, they are not alone and this helps them support the hardships caused by the US blockade. Second, raising consciousness in people everywhere -- as many people as possible -- that the US is strangling Cuba and may invade it, will facilitate staging pro Cuba demonstrations like the successful pro-Palestinian ones in the US and here in Italy.  That would send a signal to Trump -- just as the pro-Pal demos have done -- that the world is watching him and is turning ever more away from the US because of US aggression against sovereign States.

In any case, if you can't collect signatures in your neighborhood or workplace, please do sign the online petition.  Every signature counts.
