I've got some!  Sarah should be sending me a pdf soon as well so we can print our own.  Are you in Brighton tomorrow or over the weekend Katy?  I can meet you to give you a stash (posters and flyers).

Juat to let you all know, I've put posters/flyers in the following
places:

Community Base
Capers cafe
Waikikamookau
The Library
Prince Regent Swimming Pool
The Pottery Painting shop (North Rd)
Just Sew Brighton (North Rd)

I really wanted to get to the Mad Hatter cafe, the Komedia and Red Veg
as I thought they're the sort of places that might stick a poster up
but I didn't have time and i'm not in Btn now till the 2nd.

I've also circulated the electronic poster to the CVS Forum.

That sounds great, thank you Katy.

I've got them in:

* Pen to Paper on Sydney Street
* Infinity Foods message board
* New England House cafe
* Cowley Club

Do you think we can put any up in the Friends Meeting House, or on the board just outside their garden? Might be nice to target some places in the south lanes too as they're close to the event...

Thanks,

Emilia

dear Emilia
I've been thinking about Saturday.  I do think there has been a bit of anxiety about people trying to get more than their fair share of cake.  But I do think that organising the whole day around preventing the possibility of one or two people trying to get a second bit of cake for free may end up creating a way of organising things that isn't really practical (the stamping of hands whilst trying to serve tea and cake and take money).  Also as Hannah pointed out people may not want their hands stamped.  And perhaps we need to realise it's not like a gig - where part of the fun may be trying to get in for nothing - it may be mostly people with money, out shopping, (and 'older people' who may feel its slightly undignified to have to have your hand stamped to prevent them trying to get another cup of tea for free!).

Also the other thing is - I do think we will know who is coming for a second cup of tea - because they will bring their empty cup up to the tea stall  and then we can say its a pound or whatever for another cup & cake etc.  I do think we need to allow people to feel as though they are being generous - rather than to feel that we think they are possible 'scammers'.  I don't think the stamping hand thing will be practical on the day (even though it may be okay in theory!).

From past tea stalls etc - I think we will need at least 3 people at the tea and cake stall (with another two people to allow those three some time off) - and it would be great if there was one extra person: just to take the money at the tea stall - (that is the second cup of tea and cake money).

Best wishes
Jackie

Hi all,

I agree that we need to allow people to feel like they are being generous, I think it's the best way to make people feel like they want to spend more money.  I guess the idea about the stamp was to have a way of monitoring how much we're selling, and to whom.  I don't think we would ever want to force anyone into having their hand stamped, that would be ridiculous and not at all the type of atmosphere we'd want to create.  But we need some way of checking that we are selling as many £5 tickets as possible, and making it easy for people to come and get more, so that we make as much money as possible for the charity.

Maybe we just need to be clear when people come to the cake stand that if they want to come back they can for a top up or tea and cake for a pound each, and if so they can have their hand or ticket stamped?  It doesn't need to be militant.  Any other ideas?

And absolutely if it is busy then we should have extras on the cake stall, particulalrly when we will be taking money there.  Although hopefully the majority of the money will be taken in advance (for the tickets at least?)  This will probably be clearer on the day itself though, when we know how the place will be set up, and how busy we'll be, and we will certainly have enough of us available to step in with different jobs.

Laura

Hiya Jackie and everyone else,

Sorry for the delay in replying; I've been out of town and have only just got back. No problem with me to ditch the stamp idea if you prefer. Alternatively we can stamp on people's tickets rather than their hands if they have a problem with it. Whatever we decide I do think we need to have some way to tell whether or not someone's paid the £5 initial charge before they can start buying tea and cake for £1. Otherwise what's the incentive for people to buy the full price tickets in the first place? We came up with the stamp thing to deal with the fact that the garden is open to anybody and we cannot monitor who comes in and out of the area. I absolutely agree that this needs to be done in the most relaxed and subtle way possible. I'm going to buy the extra bits and pieces like the raffle tickets and stamps/ inks tomorrow so if you guys could let me know whether you'd prefer to be stamp-free and honesty-based instead I will omit those!

Looking forward to Saturday, have got all my cake ingredients now and am raring to go!

Emilia x
