Dear all,
This is where we are with the men's network stuff at the moment:
- We have analysed most of the website, particularly the more concerning areas and produced a position statement which I circulated a few weeks ago.
- Hannah and Jackie met with the Women's Services Strategic Network who were impressed with what we'd done and in some areas shared our concerns. They suggested meeting again, this time with all the women's services as some where absent at the meeting on the 12th September. They suggested 3 things:
1. Get back to them with details about where the men's network get their funding - Kerry has forwarded this.
2. Contact the Fawcett society again and the Women's Resource Centre for advice about next steps - I have contacted them and am awaiting a repsonse from the Fawcett society. The WRC suggested contacting the Surviviors nework (now Brighton Rape Crisis) directly.
3. Think about what kind of action or results we'd like to get if we did approach the men's network. They suggested, and we agreed, that we need to be very sensitive about how this is done because we don't want to appear like we are attacking everything about the network, as this might add fuel to the fire (the idea that feminists take funding from men for example).
We are hoping to meet with the WSSN again, but not before November now which is when the conference is, so if anyone has any ideas about where to take this, reply to the list and we can start thinking about possible responses.
Cheers
Laura
