You may want to have a look at the Samsung leserjet 3400 printer not printing - Apple Community discussion. See the picture (with a list of drivers) provided by divesh81. There is one folder named ML-2160. Could this possibly be worth a try? Otherwise, you could perhaps try the M2020 or M2070. This should be looked upon as an experiment. Make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything.

samsung ml 2165 printer driver

Hello. I've got new Mac with Ventura MacOS, but still would like to use old printer. But I can't find the driver. The link recommends in one of the previous discussions ( _Common_SW/Samsung_Mac_Driver_V3.93.06.dmg) can't be downloaded, it gives "no such key" error message. Any advice?

Samsung printers are now part of HP. Could the latest V3.93.08 universal driver _Common_SW/Samsung_Mac_Driver_V3.93.08.dmg possibly be used? Look upon this as an experiment. You may have to choose another model (such as ML-2160, M2020 or M2070) if there is not any entry for your printer.

Hello,
I'm trying to get my Samsung ML-2165 printer working with CUPS, I had it working a few weeks ago although it only would print a few pages before causing problems. I installed the Samsung Unified Printer Drivers from the AUR and selected the ML-2160 PPD which was the closet to my model. When I try to print it just gets stuck on: "Processing - "Sending data to printer."" I'm not sure what to do. Here's the error log from CUPS:

What I did for my Samsung printer (different model to yours though) was to install the cups-filters package, then extract the ppd file and the
rastertosamsungspl file from the linux unified printer package that came with the printer - then put the rastertosamsungspl in the directory:

By the way although my method uses the proprietary driver I found that the splix open source driver would not work with my printer - though it is possible that installing splix and trying it with yours may work?

What I did for my Samsung printer (different model to yours though) was to install the cups-filters package, then extract the ppd file and the rastertosamsungspl file from the linux unified printer package that came with the printer - then put the rastertosamsungspl in the directory:

For the record, this is exactly the method that the AUR package samsung-ml2160 uses. It works for my ML-2165, but it prints only the first job after (re)starting the printer; at every next job (even test pages) the printer does nothing, although CUPS says that the page is correctly sent to the printer.

2) Making sure that I have the splix driver package installed I can define a usb connected printer with the splix driver which works very well indeed. I have cups and avahi installed and enable cups.socket and avahi-daemon.

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

By the way the key step was adding a line to /etc/udev/rules.d/70-usbprinter.rules. WIthout that my printer was not detected properly - it did work with the propriatary samsung ppd file plus the rastertosamsungspl raster file in the correct place. i.e.

@mcloaked, i' ve tried your udev suggestion. Don't work. I think problem is ppd filter from Samsung. Unfortunately, splix package doesn't provide filter for my ML-2165 (ML-2160 series). When i tried other filters,i.e. ML-2150 ppd, i get print "use correct filter" paper. But, with ML-2160 filter (latest Samsung Unified Driver) i get whole black page. If i use ML-2160 package from AUR, i get blank page. So, it must be filter problem but i can't find a filter which was not fail.

One thing worth checking if you are using the Samsung proprietary files - I think that they have different files for i386 and x86_64 - a few years ago I was bitten by copying the files for the wrong architecture. Just worth checking as the two sets have the same filenames. I use x86_64 all the time now.

I had a lot of problems with my Samsung ML-2580N until I uninstalled all the Samsung stuff and used the Generic PCL 6/PCL XL LF Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9 driver. Since then it has been perfect.

If you navigate to the printer's website (it's an HP website nowadays, because at the time HP bought the whole Samsung printers division) you'll find that the latest available driver is for Mac 10.15. We are - at the moment of this blog post - at Mac 12.4!

Another issue with this printer's driver is that the driver is unsigned. This means that on newer macs you'll get a lot of security warnings and you may think that the printer driver is not installing because of these issues.

If your concern is that the driver is not from Samsung website, I hear you, but that's what actually worked for me. Probably there's a better source out there that comes from a trusted domain. Let me know if you find one.

Even when it's detected in the list sometimes you have to go try the official driver. I also am having trouble finding official support for your model. If your model is the ML-2165W it looks like there's a Linux driver download here: -ml-2165w-driver/ but that's not an official Samsung page so use at your own risk.

If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter Samsung ML-2165 into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.

Is it possible to add drivers for this old printer? or how to get to cups web / admin to try to install a network printer, i.e. samsung ml-2165w but previously connected to the router (which works fine as a printer in the local network)
When I type localhost:631/admin I get the response:
not found ?
My system is the latest: easy-5.4-amd64
Other than that, the system works great for me

I installed these two .deb packages on the system but nothing changed.
For me, as if server cups did not work .. specifically, the administration / admin tab after clicking gives the following message:
not found
is this some kind of bug in the system?
On ubuntu as i enter the address :631/admin
I get a web page with settings : add printer etc
on EasyOS server CUPS only shows the first page but the admin tab doesn't work! it's probably some system errors with permissions or CUPS configuration ... but these are quite complicated settings, especially in a non-standard system like Easy OS
Maybe a problem with the hostname in the system? there are some hints on the web, but only for part of ubuntu versions, e.g. reinstalling Cups. but in EasyOS you can't do it ... you have to combine manually but where?
CUPS does not work on EasyOS

If you think that this has happened to you, you can roll back to a more pristine setup.
From the menu:
Shutdown -> Rectify -> Reboot, with rollback
Then choose "Rollback to pristine first-boot"
Then tick all the checkboxes what you want to retain -- probably not "CUPS printer setup"
Then reboot.

EasyOS works super fast on my old laptop, I'm really happy.
Ps.
Is it possible to update the FTP client: gFTP in the new version of the system? ...to be able to connect TLS
I found one small bug. I just wanted to change my desktop wallpaper and got this message:

Fortunately, I had a Raspberry Pi available and connected to my home network. Why not turn it into a print server? My plan was to connect the ML-2165 to the Rasperry Pi via USB and use CUPS, the Common Unix Printing System, to expose the printer to the network. There are some good CUPS installation tutorials out there, and I was up and running in a matter of minutes.
