Project Description:
A fellowship opportunity is available with the Office of Policy, Planning and Communications of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP), Office of the Director within the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Joining the Policy Team, the selected participant will collaborate on conducting applied research in public health law and developing legal tools for use by state and local health practitioners and policy makers. An emphasis will be placed on researching and coding state laws and regulations to enable examination of how laws and regulations impede or facilitate HIV prevention activities. Specific opportunities may include:
- Identifying, analyzing and coding state legislation and regulations affecting HIV prevention efforts, such as those related to: HIV testing/screening; laboratory reporting of CD4 and viral load data; data sharing and confidentiality; and provider access
- Contributing to internal- and external-facing reports by conducting analyses of state laws and regulations that may promote or hinder achievement of national HIV prevention and treatment goals
- Preparing case studies, manuscripts, etc., warranted by the results of the research conducted
