John Collins is sending us about 20 relevant photos, i will have next week.  they are coming on disc.
I have ordered a couple of DVD's with some footage, most of it is later than 50's, 60's, but there is some from that time.  It is, according to John Collins, all that is available footage-wise.  There was a fire at Ghanian Broadcasting that destroyed all of what they held.

Thanks Shari. I'll keep my eye out for the DVD's.

I got some photos from John Collins that I will fedex today along with the Italian Audio "Afrorock" that just arrived.

The HighLife footage which I ordered turns out not to be available from that source, it appears to be owned by CBS Entertainment, Not CBS News who we are already working wtih...., I am pursuing it, warning - programs coming out of Network Entertainment Divisions are often riddled with third party clearance issues...

In the meantime, there are a few other videos that appear to have some highlife, they live all over Europe, I am pursuing....

This is a series called "Repercussions".  There are two films about Ghana....films 5 and 7.  But the others could have some interesting and perhaps helpful images as well....let me know which you would like to see.  Thanks.

This gem of a series of seven one-hour documentaries was made for Britain's Channel 4 TV some years ago, with the aim of illustrating the complex musical links between Africa and the Afro-Americas. Except for the last one, each video contains two programs. The first program is on the traditional musicians of the Gambia. The second jumps to Alabama for a look at the roots of black gospel music. The third and fourth deal with the general Caribbean region. The fifth revolves round a specific Ghanaian drumming tradition. The sixth, shot in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, deals with both roots idioms and reggae. And the last one examines contemporary Ghanaian highlife.

Hi!

I'm with you, films 5 and 7 are a definite. The 3rd and 4th might be worth looking at for "voodoo traditions" in addition to music broll. And maybe the 6th for music/studio broll? But if it's tight, I'd say just get the highlife/ghana ones.

This series was produced in 1985.  It was a co production between Channel 4 TV and Third Eye Productions Ltd.  It aired on BBC.  BBC and Channel 4 hold no rights.  Third Eye Productions...they no longer exist in this form...I have the name of the executive producer and a couple of other names, i will now try to track them down...we'll see...hmmm...

I am going after a couple of other docs, they are in Europe, and nobody answers emails in August!!!!!  Ugh.

There is on doc called Listen to the Silence which you will have tomorrow, Wed Aug 14.
