Installing Feedzirra Into Torqubox (jruby)

I'm new to the group and very interested in using Feedzirra on a project that I'm working on.  I'm using Torquebox/Jruby as my development environment and was wondering if anyone has been able to install Feedzirra in this environment.  I have tried several times and I get error message related to curl.  I have seen some post that indicates that curl doesn't behave well with Jruby and was wondering if there are any workarounds that anyone is aware of.
