Really the best press-release I have ever read, because it explains
the reasoning for move-in day and what actually happened. OO Move-in

If we want to take over vacant lots/houses, let's work with the
community first, then do it quietly with small crews. The OO move in
day caused the riot police to freak out and cause a huge
confrontation. A decentralized and leaderless movement is key I guess.

Yeah, I agree, there were some tactical mistakes during #moveinday.
The whole event created a huge confrontation and stand-off with the
riot police. I think we need to organize and do some higher risk of
arrest-ability direct actions in smaller groups, instead of having a
bunch of mass-actions all the time. The mass actions and confrontation
with police that happened in NYC back in October and November is what
caused OWS to gain national attention and sympathy from the rest of
the world. If it wasn't for the confrontations with police in NYC in
September and October, no one would have ever heard of OWS. Mass
action has its benefits, but also it drawbacks.

The 'black block" if you look at their uniforms were really "police
block" (look at all the peace signs on the shields). They were only
supposed to be a civil-defense and de-arrest crew. Yes, people in the
peace block freaked out and started throwing the tear gas canisters
back at the police. For anarchists, the idea of a peace block was
funny, but to mainstream America and the way the media spun it, it
made OO look bad.

I think the lesson to be learned is that we need to think more
tactically and strategically. We also need to be aware of our public
image as we move forward.

The mass actions bring press attention and usually brings us sympathy,
but the real long-term work is also important...building sustainable
and alternative systems. That is why I love Occupy Farms, because I
feel that we are doing direct action everyday to make the world a
better place.

Solidarity,
Zoe
