Hi Will.
Good to hear from you. Hope you are loving this awesome summer.
How about a brand new idea for how to spend the money?
Seems like Occupy Farms is really stepping in on the food front and feeding movements on many levels. I think it'd be great to donate the money to use toward building a transport network as that still seems like the biggest challenge. It could be either to move people to farms or to move food from farms to people, maybe to put toward the purchase of the van or veggie bus I have been hearing about folks wishing for.
I am very excited about young folk and city folk wanting to learn from the land and to grow resilience and would like to foster that in any way possible. That willingness to be taught to connect to Earth is priceless and will surely leave us all better off regardless of what the bureaucrats do. A worthy investment!

Hey all,

thanks Cat for the suggestion. I would be open to this if other people
are. I would also want to know that there are actually some specific
people, with a specific plan to serve a defined purpose, towards which
the money would go. Does Occupy Farms have a bank account? Are folks
right now looking to create a transport network, and just needs some
funds?

As an alternative proposal, what if we donated the money to Fair Food
Farm? This for two reasons - 1, they were very generous donating a lot
of produce and organizing a lot last fall. 2, they've been one of the
most active host farms with Occupy Farms, and have been working a lot
with ideas for getting activists and farms linked up. So giving the
the $ would satisfy earlier ideas that we had in the winter about
giving surplus $ to farmers who donated, and it would satisfy the idea
to support Occupy Farms.

Comments?

Will,
That seems like a great solution. I have been seeing some strife in the Occupy Farms groups lately - Lots of concern about for-profit farms not paying workers and a fear of promoting unjust labor camps. A valid concern. Anyway, it seems like they have some things to work out. Some do have bank accounts but I trust that Fair Food Farm will invest the money wisely toward the movement, however they choose to do that. Your idea has my support.
~Cheers, Cat

I'm supportive of giving it to Fair Food.
