Feedburner sends out all news posts in email instead of just the most recent

Hi all
I have an issue where our subscribers keep getting all of the news stories sent to them on email from feedburner instead of just the most recent.
The feed address is a PHP files that fetches all of the news stories from the mySQL and exports them to a XML file. When admin adds a new news story, it's saved in the database and is pulled into the feed.
How do I get feedburner to email just the most recent news story when it is added? The existing site used to do this, but used WordPress go generate the feed. No settings have been changed in the Feeburner account.
