Hi Nancy,
I completely agree. As I wrote in the "Educator discussion" forum,
we'll be building this project out in different "modules" or "modes".
Right now as the project exists we are in "stock graph" mode, and I
imagine that this mode will be eventually fleshed out to allow users
to customize the button labels and maybe choose between more graphical
representations, including pie charts and bar graphs.
The Q/A functionality (along with chat and microblogging systems Jade
was referring to) I would describe as a separate "mode" and would be
built out separately, with the eventual goal of letting professors/
speakers specify several modules at the beginning of classes/talks,
and users will simply be able to access all functions though a little
"tab" system. On one tab they can use the "stock graph" functionality,
and on the other they can access the Q/A functionality. Other modes
not specified by the professor/speaker up front will not be accessible
to students/audience members.
This modal system is advantageous from a development standpoint
because it allows teams to focus on making their module the best they
can without worrying about sharing a UI with other modules. Right now
this is analogous to the philosophy behind iOS and Android operating
systems, which allows for modal "apps" that users can toggle between.
