Hi All,

The Hyrax Fedora 6 Working Group was established in early 2024 in response to the upcoming Hyrax 5.x release and the continued growth in Fedora 6.x adoption. Its work has centered on evaluating, documenting, and clarifying the changes needed for Hyrax 5.x to support Fedora 6.x as a back-end repository.

Stakeholders from the Working Group have been focused on working collaboratively to ensure these two platforms remain a robust solution for all users. Since its inception, the Working Group has released a series of communications to provide community members updates on progress and achievements. You can find those communications here.

Recent Accomplishments:

  • Fedora 7.0.0-RC1 Released

  • Hyrax 5 Continued Improvements

    • Current QA work to support flexible metadata functionality

    • Improvements to IIIF manifests and the Universal Viewer

  • Advancing import capabilities with Bulkrax

    • Effort to merge Bulkrax into Hyrax more easily is complete

    • F6.nurax includes the most current version of Bulkrax to aid in performance testing

The WG will now turn its attention to preparing for Phase 2 of the Performance Testing deliverable. Once ready, a technical update will follow.

Current state of technologies:

Hyrax 5.2.0 - https://github.com/samvera/hyrax/releases/tag/hyrax-v5.2.0

Fedora 7.0.0-RC1 - https://github.com/fcrepo/fcrepo/releases/tag/fcrepo-7.0.0-RC1

Valkyrie 3.5.1 - https://github.com/samvera/valkyrie/releases/tag/v3.1.4

Getting Involved

Performance Testing - Phase 2

  • Bulkrax is now available in the Fedora 6 Nurax instance, which will enable Phase 2 of performance testing

  • We will be asking for volunteers to perform predefined tests in this repository and document time to complete and any issues encountered

  • Look for more information about participating in Phase 2 in the coming weeks

Communication Channels

  •  #fcrepo channel on the Samvera Slack workspace

    • Check in on WG progress

    • Ask questions related to your Samvera/Fedora implementations

    • Browse past support communications

A special thank you to all of the Working Group members who have been actively involved in this effort. We are excited to be close to completing our final deliverables and look forward to sharing more info as it comes available. Please consider participating in any of the community testing avenues via the Performance Testing or through community testing of any of the individual elements. All your input helps.

Cheers,
Arran
