Fedora in the Community
Last month the Fedora Program team was in action at
Open
Repositories in Chicago, IL. Through the course of the week we had the opportunity to participate in some fantastic conversations, meet new users and connect with
fellow Fedora users from around the world.
The highlight of our trip was hosting our 2nd annual Fedora User Group meeting and having a chance to sit down over pizza with Fedora community members!
|
|
Early this month we participated in the
PHAIDRA
monthly community call, sharing updates on Community work and sharing details about The National Library of Medicine’s migration effort. We plan to release their user story as part of our blog series later on this month. Learn more about the PHAIDRA community
on their open
Discourse platform.
By the time this newsletter reaches you,
IslandoraCon
2025 will have wrapped. We were fortunate enough to present during the 4-day event, bringing info and insight on our ongoing work to the Islandora community. Thank
you to the IslandoraCon coordinating committee for putting on a great event.

Technology Updates
Dependency Upgrade Project
|
We are moving through the
Dependency
Project, nearing almost 80% completion. With only two modules left to upgrade, we optimistically anticipate being complete by the fall. Once all upgrades are ready,
we will be launching a community-wide testing phase and will need your help! Stay tuned for how to participate in this phase of work so we can ensure a smooth release.
A special thanks to Jared Whiklo from the University of Manitoba, and Ben Pennell from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for their massive contributions
to this project.

Member's Corner
Service Provider Perspectives: Born-Digital
As part of our monthly blog series, we have been showcasing how our users are implementing Fedora within their institutions. This month we took a pivot, welcoming
service providers Born-Digital to come and discuss how they are supporting their clients' Fedora use cases. CEO, Noah Smith, shared their experiences working with Fedora and talked about their experiences being involved in open source communities like Islandora
and Fedora.

Fedora Funding Campaign
Stand with other academic leaders pledging their support for Fedora by contributing to our
Funding
Campaign. Building on last year’s successes, we launched the
Dependency
Upgrade Project (see above) in March. This work is essential to keep Fedora secure, performant and reliable for all users. While progress is underway, completing
this work efficiently — so we can shift focus back to feature development and enhancements — will require additional support.
How You Can Make a Direct Impact
Consider making a donation to our extended Funding Campaign
We are extending the FY24-2025 Funding Campaign with the goal of surpassing the $25,000 target we originally set.
End-of-year funding requests
present the perfect opportunity to utilize unspent funds and contribute to critical digital infrastructure.
