Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a nice week. As we head into weekend, we wanted to share some information about a new initiative of the Fedora Governance Group.

Today, we had an initial kick-off meeting of the Fedora Sustainability Working Group. The group will undertake a coordinated planning effort focused on long-term sustainability and growth for the program and its community of users. This initiative will explore strategies to define and strengthen Fedora’s future across clearly articulated areas of focus; community engagement, outreach, funding, and governance.

Over the coming months, the Working Group will focus on:

Membership & Governance

  • Evaluating and strengthening the value of being a Fedora Member

  • Improving transparency around how community funding supports Fedora

  • Exploring governance-related opportunities that support long-term sustainability

Business Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Expanding Fedora awareness beyond traditional library, archive, and museum spaces

  • Developing more coordinated outreach, conference participation, and community engagement strategies

  • Identifying opportunities to grow adoption and strengthen partnerships

Grants & Funding Development

  • Identifying grant opportunities aligned with Fedora priorities and roadmap goals

  • Building a coordinated approach to grant development and funding support

  • Exploring additional models for long-term sustainability

As always, Fedora is dedicated to Community participation. We will seek opportunities for contributors to engage as work progresses. You can expect updates as work advances. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself, or Fedora Governance Chair, Scott Prater ( scott....@wisc.edu). We are always happy to chat.

Thanks in advance for the on-going support and commitment to Fedora. I am excited about the work ahead and what this means for expanding our community and engaging in new and exciting ways!

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Arran
