We are writing to share information on the next major milestone for Fedora - the plan for the next major release of Fedora, Fedora 7.0.
If you have been following along with our communication channels, you will be familiar with the Dependency Upgrade Project, which was driven by the critical need to update and modernize Fedora’s core codebase. With the completion of the project, we are now prepared to begin rolling out the next major release of Fedora, Fedora 7.0.
What’s in this release?
Thanks to the work done in the Dependency Upgrade Project, we have:
This work sets the foundation for a more robust, future-ready Fedora.
Following semantic versioning principles, the migration to Java 21 requires a new major release, as there are changes to the Java API that are incompatible with earlier versions of Fedora.
This will be the first major release since 2021, and we couldn’t be more excited.
