Welcome to 2026. This year is going to be full of exciting updates, technical developments and engagement opportunities. We have a lot to look forward to over the next 12 months, and we invite you to stay in the loop by following along with our monthly newsletters. This is the best spot to keep informed about all that is happening in the Fedora Community. And we’ve got lots to share!

Open Information Gathering Sessions - Fedora UI

During the Virtual Fedora Showcase in November 2025, we introduced an exciting new project being supported by the Lyrasis CST Growth Fund. In conjunction with the release of Fedora 7.x, we will be looking to develop a new training and administrative UI for Fedora that reflects the modernization of the codebase, as well as incorporates fixes for outdated components of the current UI. Before we can move forward with scoping features to include, we need your input.

Earlier this month, we hosted a series of Open Information Gathering Sessions to gather user stories for working with the UI and how you envision its functionality. If you were unable to attend any of the sessions, we are still seeking community-wide input.

Please submit your ideas into our Community Input Matrix. The comment period closes January 31, 2026.

EU/UK Monthly Tech Meeting

In 2026 we will be hosting a secondary regular Tech Meeting in a time zone more accommodating of users outside of North America. This meeting does not replace the weekly Tech Meetings which are still held each Thursday at 11 a.m. ET. Being called the EU/UK Tech Meeting, we are inviting anyone who is interested in participating and contributing to Fedora to join us. All skill levels are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there.

Details:

  • When: The 2nd Tuesday of each month
  • Next Meeting: February 10, 2026
  • Time: 13:00 UTC (8 a.m. ET)
  • Agenda and Zoom Link

Website Content Working Group

We are looking forward to restarting the Website Content Working Group in early February. This Working Group is focused on generating, editing and reviewing content related to the
Fedora website and any other public-facing Fedora sites. Our focus this year will be on updating and submitting changes to the Fedora Commons Wikipedia entry, which is largely outdated. We are looking for content enthusiasts or anyone interested in supporting this project. No prior experience required. Everyone is welcome!

If you are interested in joining the Website Content Working Group, please complete this sign-up form. Fedora Program Manager, Arran Griffith, will reach out to all interested parties to arrange formal meeting cadence and times.

Please submit your name before January 31 to be included in communications regarding the meeting organization.

Fedora Year In Review

In case you missed it before the holiday break, we wanted to share once more, our annual Fedora Year in Review.

This serves as a small highlight reel to some of our most important achievements from 2025. With so many incredible accomplishments we couldn’t fit it all into one place, so we simply chose some of our favorites. Moving into 2026, we are excited about the many projects we are kicking off! What do you think will make the 2026 highlight reel?

AI Discussions Working Group

This is a reminder about the AI Discussions Working Group. Our regularly scheduled meetings are restarting on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 11 a.m. ET. If you would like to be added to the recurring meeting invitation, and to get a Zoom link to join, please add your name to the communications list.

Solutions Showcase Series

The AI Discussions WG is seeking volunteers to participate in future Solutions Showcases. Presenters are asked to demonstrate the tool(s) or solution(s) they have implemented to mitigate the system impacts from aggressive bot scraping on their infrastructures. Solutions do not need to be new or unique. Everyone has different implementations, specialized tweaks and configurations, and participants are interested in seeing and understanding how they can be deployed.

Please reach out to Arran Griffith (arran.g...@lyrasis.org) if you are interested in participating, and she will happily provide details and information on the process.

Details on previous Showcases can be found on our wiki.

OCFL-Java Implementers Meeting

If you are using the OCFL-Java library (yes, that’s all of you Fedora 6.x users 😉) and would like to take a meaningful role in the maintenance, upkeep and feature development, the OCFL-Java Implementers are inviting you to join us!

We are a diverse group of individuals implementing the OCFL-Java library in some capacity, not all being Fedora users. We are seeking other interested users to join us in discussion on the future of the library as we plan for the release of OCFL 2.0.

Meeting Details:

  • Quarterly Meeting - 2nd Thursday of the month
  • Next Meeting: Thurs. Feb 12, 2026
  • Time: 10 a.m. ET
  • Wiki & Zoom link to join
