Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all having a great week so far. I am writing today to provide some information regarding recent changes to the process for sharing Fedora Governance meeting minutes.

As you may or may not be aware, in 2022 a decision was made to combine the former Leadership and Steering Governance groups into a single Governance Group. This provided an opportunity for a wider, more diverse representation of our community in decision-making conversations and also brought a variety of new voices to the table. As part of this change, meeting minutes for the combined group were kept as internal documents due to the sensitive nature of some of the discussion topics.

However, in recognition of our long-standing tradition of maintaining transparency, Governance has decided that it is important to keep the community informed about the work they are doing on behalf of our users. Going forward, Governance meeting minutes will be published on the Fedora wiki following each meeting. The minutes will be posted here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/FF/Meetings - See 2024 Fedora Governance Group Meetings.

Here is a brief summary of the February Fedora Governance Group meeting:

  • Lyrasis Member’s Summit will take place virtually on Feb 22, 2023 – invitations were issued to all eligible Fedora Members.
  • The Technology Survey is now closed and we are waiting on the results and data report from the Research and Innovation team at Lyrasis. Details will be communicated once they’re ready and used to inform program priority setting for the future.
  • The program received a $7500 stipend from It Takes A Village for assisting with beta testing of the toolkit during our Strategic Planning phase.
  • Community Participation Updates were provided by representatives from each of the following groups:
    • Hyrax Fedora 6 Working Group
    • Islandora LAC-GLAM
    • OCFL
  • Technology Updates were provided on the following topics:
    • Fedora 6.x performance testing in partnership with Texas Advanced Computing Center
    • Upcoming Fedora 6.5 release
  • Early conversations were had about a Fedora UK/EU Gathering for all in conjunction with Open Repositories in Sweden in June

These meeting notes will not serve to replace any of the regular communications sent on behalf of the program or any information contained within the monthly newsletter, but intended to provide insight in to the work that Fedora Governance is doing. Meeting summaries will not be provided each time, but the minutes will be made available on the wiki 1 week after each meeting.

We look forward to sharing all of our hard work with our community. As always, I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to reach out at arran.g...@lyrasis.org.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Cheers,

Arran
