FED3 Daily maintenance during prolonged studies

Posting here as requested by Lex! I'm hoping to solicit any best practices people have found for daily maintenance of FEDs when using them in feeding studies where the FED is the only source of food for the mouse. Do you clean everyday? Full wipe-down? With just compressed air? Only clean when there's an issue? Let me know!

Hi Wyatt,
Our best practice is cleaning the FEDs between cohorts or every two weeks. Cleaning consists of wiping down the outside of the FED, emptying all the pellets (to avoid stale food), air compressor inside and outside on all the sensors and through the dispenser. We also do cleans when there are issues.

Do you guys use any kind of barrier to stop the mice getting on top of the FEDs? We also have a metal screen that we attach to the feds with magnets so the mice cant get on top of or behind them which helps with the cleanliness! - Chantelle
