Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has ever gotten the FED3 PCB printed by a manufacturer instead of ordering the electronic kit through open ephys? If so, which manufacturer do you recommend? Thank you!

I've never ordered FED3 PCB, but OSHPark is my favorite PCB manufacturer.

Hi! We have done PCB manufacturing with both Oshpark and Seeed Studio, both are great (Seeed is cheaper but Oshpark is higher quality).  Ordering the FED3 PCB is straightforward (download the .BRD file attached below or from the FED3 Github and upload it at Oshpark.com) but populating the surface mount components is challenging if you aren't experienced with surface mount soldering. I'm not trying to be discouraging of doing it - there are several users that have had success doing this!  I just want to make sure you know the challenges with assembling these from scratch before getting started!  Best, -Lex

Maybe they don't know about the OG Fed3 that can be soldered together? The soldering for that one isn't as intense... I think the parts list needs some updating though --- I can send an excel of what we had to order vs what's on the current parts excel sheet.

Yes, you can make the "OG FED3"!  That version is easier to put together in a DIY way as it does not use SMD parts.  I'm not sure how much $$ you save vs. OEPS as you have to buy pre-made boards from Adafruit for each compoment.  Nik, if you have a parts list that would be great so we can confirm!

Hi Nik,
I was wondering if you were able to send that excel sheet you mentioned. That would be super helpful! Is the list you mentioned for the "OG FED3"?

Lex,
Is the OG FED the version with the BNC connector that came before the 3.1?

Thank you all so much!

Hi Matt!  The "OG FED" is the DIY electronics that can be put together with Adafruit boards, before I connected with OpenEphys to start producing the boards more professionally.  You can see that version with DIY instructions here:

We have done PCB manufacturing with JLC,  and 3D printing with Wenext, Both are very cheap. and the quality is fine.
The soldering is not that hard, we have built a bunch of this successfully. and I really appreciate Lex help.

and you can also choose the PCB assembly service, The price is not that high if you make some more.

Hi all,

Is there a list of the components needed for the SMD approach with the newest PCB boards?

Thanks,
Ames
