EIA Joins Coalition in Strong Support of the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act of 2025

🚨 It’s long overdue — Congress must ban asbestos now. On September 16, 2025, the bipartisan Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act was introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), and Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE). The Environmental Information Association (EIA), along with ADAO, APHA, EWG, IAFF, and dozens of other health and labor groups, proudly supports ARBAN. This bill will: ✅ Ban all asbestos fibers, including winchite and richterite ✅ Close loopholes left by EPA’s 2024 rule ✅ Provide permanent protections that cannot be overturned in court 👉 Each year, more than 40,000 Americans die from asbestos-related diseases. The science is clear: there is no safe level of exposure. The U.S. has fallen behind nearly 70 countries that have already banned asbestos. We’ve waited long enough.
