Middle schools expo is huge hit, leader says

The Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Middle School Department held its first Middle School Career Expo, Saturday, May 5, at Morrow Middle School.

"The purpose of the Expo was to give parents, students and the community an opportunity to see the great things our middle school students are doing in the Middle School CTAE programs," said E.C. Chillis, program coordinator.

Morrow High School's ROTC program opened the ceremony with the presentation of arms, and Dr. Edmond Heatley, superintendent, brought greetings from the administrative office.

Throughout the event, business and computer science teachers gave students an opportunity to test their typing skills while family and consumer science students passed out smoothies, and competed in the Cup Cake War where judges were selected to vote on the best cup cake design.  The engineering and technology students demonstrated how to use technology in the classroom.  There were many student produced tri-boards and other presentations setup to showcase students in action.

"The first annual Middle School Career Expo was a huge success," Chillis said. "Parents, teachers, and community members came out to support this inaugural event."

Vendors that participated included: Associated Credit Union, Georgia College 411, and Glencoe/McGraw Hill. Door prizes were donated by Barnes and Noble, Chick-fil-A, Chop Chop Magazine, Cornerstone Solutions, Fuel Up to Play 60, and Little Caesars Pizza. - Submitted by

E.C. Chillis, Coordinator of CTAE.

Fountain Elementary continues its annual fiesta

Fountain Elementary celebrated Cinco de Mayo last Friday in a grand way. In its fourth year, the celebration consisted of a traditional Mexican lunch prepared by parents and a parade around the school campus in which students displayed various crafts, such as maracas, flags, and banners. The day concluded with a student-led assembly that included musical and dance performances by students, as well as the unveiling of the winners of the school-wide piñata contest. The theme for the day was, "Celebrating Our Story," which encouraged students to respect each other's culture, and also to be familiar with their own backgrounds. - Submitted by Daniel Helena, ESOL teacher.
