The Mercruiser engine identification plate can normally be found on the engine block, near the starter motor or close to the flywheel housing. This information may also be on the carburettor cover (flame arrestor) or rocker cover. If you need a sterndrive serial number look on the upper driveshaft housing both on the rear face and on one side. The transom shield housing serial number is marked in a similar fashion on the upper surface. However, should this information be missing, please contact us for further assistance and we will do our best to help.

New owner of a 1995 Malibu Echelon and need to get filter parts, oil specs, spark plug numbers, etc for my Mercruiser 350 CI engine that is carbureted. Not having much success on the Mercury web site even with the engine serial number.
Thanks Foot and Woodski! I did finally figure out that the engine serial number for the Magnum Tournament Ski Engine effectively needed a "0" in front of the rest of the number to find the owners manual. I have been watching some bad U-Tube videos on winterizing. Do you put yours away dry or drain then fill with RV fluids? What brand and part number do you use for your gas/water separator? Manual does not help. And the oil filter appears to accept a Fram PH5. Does that sound correct?
Oil filter is simply a Suburban / Silverado circa '95 filter (truck filter longer than car version), I use a Wix 51061 oil filter. Water separator: Mallory 9-37801, Quicksilver 35-802893Q01. FYI - Velvet drive fluid is either 30 wt Hydraulic fluid or ATF, I recommend hydraulic oil (I use Mobil 423) as it makes the tranny much smoother and quieter (damping characteristics of hydraulic oil), but don't mix and if you change, don't forget the trans cooler also. Remove fluid with a turkey baster as no drain plug.
Next time on way down with boat, stop by and I'll show you what I have done in the past to winterize.
Basically empty all water out. Put RV antifreeze in for corrosion protection. Change oil too. It really isn't hard.
When replacing the exhaust parts (manifolds, risers, elbows) on your marine engine, the best way to make sure you find the proper replacements is to look at your current exhaust parts and write down the casting numbers from each. These casting numbers are often directly correlated with the part number, though in some cases there are extraneous casting numbers as well. Write down any and all, as you may need to search for each set to find the right replacement.
In some cases the casting numbers are on the engine side of the part, or up against the valve covers/head, making it difficult to see prior to removal. Try using a flashlight and extendible inspection mirror to get a better look. You can also sometimes carefully lower a smartphone and take a flash picture. There are some cases where the manifold must be removed prior to being able to ID it. Keep in mind that once removed it should not be reinstalled without cleaning mating surfaces and replacing gaskets.
With the casting numbers handy, you can try the Sierra SONAR tool, which matches OEM and aftermarket part numbers to Sierra parts. This tool also allows using engine make, model, year, and serial number to find parts, if you were unable to get casting numbers.
If you have a Mercury (MerCruiser) engine, you can also try the official Mercury Parts Express site, which will take your Mercury serial number and provide parts breakdowns and diagrams. These Mercury part numbers can then be used to find Sierra aftermarket replacements, if you wish.
