Who is My Creator?
Wednesday, November 29, 2006

Release me once more
into the waters of life
where once again, I become silent
within the vast openness of my soul
and feel his love from the depths
which was meant for me since birth
or even before my conception

I once cried from fear
for the world was new to me
though my mother’s milk
awaited my thirst,
and my father’s smile
awaited my sight,
and life awaited my endless journey…

I could not comprehend
that which was laid out before me
Pebbles were softly placed in steps
for my walking…
though rocks pierced my skin
and I once forgot who I was

I have now returned
to the child within me
and I know well-who is my creator
for the truth is vast and wide
and his eternal comfort
is mine for the asking

the Gathas these are sometimes personified, and sometimes just Ideas or concepts. In later traditions, they are personified, and become like archangels. They are never worshipped on their own.

The "dualism" of Zoroastrianism is known in the "West," but is mostly misunderstood. In the Gathas Spenta Mainyu, the "Holy Creative Spirit," is opposed to Angra Mainyu, the Hostile Spirit. This conflict takes place in the human heart and mind, not in the material Universe. It is the constant struggle between good and evil in human beings. This is ethical dualism, the dualism of Good and Evil. In later traditions this changed into a dualism that took in the material world, dividing the Universe into two camps, each ruled by the Good God or the Evil Spirit. This is called "cosmic" dualism.

Some Zoroastrians believe in "cosmic" dualism, others in ethical dualism. The teachings of the Gathas, the original work of the Prophet, tend toward ethical dualism.

Zoroastrian worship involves prayers and symbolic ceremonies said before a sacred fire. This fire, which was a God- symbol even before Zarathushtra, was used by the Prophet and by his followers ever after as the ideal sign of God, who is light, warmth, energy. Zoroastrians do NOT worship fire, as some people believe. They use Fire as a symbol, or an icon, the focus of their worship.

Zoroastrianism does not teach or believe in reincarnation or karma. Zoroastrians believe that after life on earth, the human soul is judged by God as to whether it did more good or evil in its life. Those who chose good over evil go to what Zarathushtra referred to simply as the "best existence," or heaven, and those who chose evil go to the "worst existence," or hell. Zoroastrianism was one of the first religions to give the afterlife a moral dimension.

Zoroastrianism also believes in the progress of sacred time, and the eventual end of time. The belief is that the collective good acts of humanity will slowly transform the imperfect material world into its heavenly ideal. This is known as the "frasho-kereti," or "making-fresh," that is, renewal. At the end of time everything and everyone will be purified, even the souls in hell - so hell is not eternal.

Zoroastrian ideas of moral dualism, heaven and hell, sacred time, and angelic beings have influenced Judaism and Christianity, during long centuries of contact between these faiths in the Middle East.

WHY SUICIDE?

An examination of the Temple cannot omit the question of why so many folks would commit suicide in the name of their new faith (or at the behest of a single man). Jones, apparently, saw the suicide as a revolutionary act, and in the last years of the Temple, an emphasis on religious ideas, particularly those of mainstream Christianity, was replaced by an emphasis on the political nature of the group. Weightman discusses the concept of revolutionary suicide in greater depth in her book than we can here. However it is important to recognize that revolutionary suicide is not a concept that can be found in the writings of Karl Marx. Suicide cannot be revolutionary for Marx because suicide, particularly en masse, by an oppressed people effectively eliminates the very people who would be revolting. The self inflicted deaths of the revolutionaries eliminates the need for revolution and the means of production remain in the hands of the oppressors. Of course, Marx, as a materialist, sees the goals of life as entirely tied to this world, this life. The Peoples Temple members, as religious people, believed in some notion of an after-life.

That stated, is there another explanation for the suicides? Emil Durkheim's concept of "altruistic suicide" is a good match. In this classification of suicide, those who kill themselves feel more closely tied to a sub-group than to mainstream society and their "basis for existence seems situated beyond life itself" (Durkheim,Lemert 90).

Again, Weightman probes deeply into the question of precisely why 913 people would terminate their own lives and her book includes a discussion of the resocialization of the Temple members. Also, Jonathan Smith, in Imagining Religion, sheds some light on this primary problem by placing the Peoples Temple into the larger framework of Religious Tradition. Smith compares the Peoples Temple to the Dionysic cults of Western antiquity as well as to the cargo cults in the New Hebrides Islands in this

Hi LG:

Regarding the "CIVIL WAR" .........civil wars are never civil, dear LG have been instigated by the invaders & the Israeli operators in IRAQ in order to take the pressure off the invaders by the FREEDOM FIGHTERS. Bear in mind that each & every IRAQI is a FREEDOM FIGHTER & no freedom fight/guerilla warfare can survive nor sustain without total support of local populace.

The "Black ops" teams are conducting all operations in order to divide IRAQIS & cause a rift between Sunnis & Shias & KURDS, which includes killing of innocent civilians & blaming it on "insurgents" in order to dismantle local populace support for Freedom Fighters.

The Invaders phy-warfare & propaganda machine tells the American sheeple that the "INSURGENTS" ( No IRAQI is ever an insurgent in his own country) are FOREIGN fighters & not IRAQIS who are dancing with joy at the removal of Saddam. NOT.........
..they want all invaders to get the fuck out of their country, mainly because life under brutal invaders is 1000 times worse than life under Saddam ever.

Brother Coleman,

He wants to desecrate his memory because in reality he is not a muslim. He is a hindu. That is how many of them work on the internet. They pretend to be muslims, they use deception, and then they play these silly games which most of us can easily see through. The fact of the matter is that this Abu chap could neither care about Hajj Malik Shabazz nor any other poor untouchable in India, nor for the truth in general. If so he wouldn't be using a deceptive name. He claims to be a shiah, but he never once spent his days in remembrance of why these days would be important for Shias. If he did, we wold not be seeing his posts here. Safe to say that as a hindu truth means nothing, and he is practicing his hindu beliefs of deception.

Wa Alaikum Salam

I am not sure I understand your point.  Khalifs Uthman, Ali, and Umar.  As well as almost the entire umayyad clan as well as hundreds of thousands of other believers.  Should we not speak of the rightly guided Caliphs that met their demise due to the actions of other Muslims?

At any rate you are wrong about Malik El-Shabazz. The persons who murdered him were members of the Nation of Islam, a deviant sect,  the very cult he had left. They preached a racist ideology and saw or thought Elijah Muhammad, their leader, to be a Messenger of God. Imam Shabazz was more concerned about the state of affairs for Afro-Americans than the Nation of Islam alone and spoke out for freedom and justice for minorities so was censured by the black nationalist sect. Elijah Muhammad taught that white men were the Devil (and some other non Islamic things). When Malik Shabazz went to mecca for hajj he found Muslims of all colors worshiping together that is the reason for the letter.

If you are truly an Imam one would think you would know "his story". In addition to the above there was considerable evidence at the time that there was CIA cooperation with the NOI (Nation of Islam) in the murder of Malik Shabazz).  Seems there was a cointel plan at the time called the "King Alfred Plan" that called for the elimination of any Black leader that might arise and  lead or unite blacks to revolt against the American injustices of the time.

Martin Luther King and several other would be Black messiahs as well as Malik Shabazz met their maker because of this plan. There are literally millions of African - American Muslims that reverted to Orthodox Islam because of this man; why do you chose to desecrate his memory? Especially since you have no ideal what you are talking about. Someone once said "If you don't know you betta ask somebody"
