Hi members,

I'd like to introduce myself as a new member.

I'm an older student, (somewhere over 35, under 55) who is studying law and behavioural science degrees, combined. Recently I've become fired up about the lack of rights that nature and other species have. Nature is property to the human animal, to use and abuse for their own profit. I am very disgruntled about the power imbalance between those advocating for nature and those who are pro-development. I know you are all familiar with this sentiment.

In joining the group, I am looking to learn from you and contribute to the group.

Another thing I am not happy about is the proposed removal of the tree that is in the plaza that has grown up from the lower level, whose branches extend in the gap in the upper level outside FUSA. I don't see why this "award-winning global design and consulting firm Woods Bagot (and their) $63 million redevelopment" could not have allowed this tree to co-exist in the new ... development thing.

Yes I am not overly keen about the changes coming to the plaza. To me it looks like there's less flat grassed area and what there is, is laid out in such as way to just be grass that invites traffic, not sitting on with bean bags. And they had better keep their hands off those big trees. Here is the fly through link if you haven't seen it. http://flindersfuturefocus.flinders.edu.au/major-projects/new-plaza-student-hub/

Yesterday I went to a half day seminar run by the Australian Earth Laws Alliance. It was very exciting and informative and I encourage you to check out their site. http://www.earthlaws.org.au/

OK well I will come to the next meeting, or whatever else is on, provided it's not when I'm working. I'm lucky to have a job Wed-Fri 10-1 in the law library. I'm usually shelving or on desk if you ever want to say hi. On facebook I am curously known as "Annette Kuuch."

I'm excited!!!!

Best regards,

Annette.Couch (pronouced 'cooch')
