Is there currently a way in Smokeview to display the "ORIENTATION" of a sensor, particularly something that is currently displayed as a sphere, like the orientation of a RADIATION HEAT FLUX GAS device?  Perhaps plot as a normal vector etc?  I know at least the sensor geometry is displayed properly for a sprinkler or smoke detector, so one can sort of see the orientation, but simple spheres all look the same.  Thanks.

You should be able to draw the object yourself, or at least choose a pre-drawn object with orientation. Check out the chapter in the User's Guide with all the Smokeview images. You can choose one that works for your app. The sphere is just a default.

Yeah, that should work.  Pointing it with a cone or something.  Thanks.

I added an option to smokeview to display the orientation vector for devices (as they were defined in the input file).

to activate the option, select the "show orientation" menu item under geometry>objects or select the "show orientation" checkbox in the devices dialog box.  You can also change the length of the orientation vector (in case it is hidden by the object) in the dialog box.

Nice.  Looks pretty good.  My only question would be whether you want to to show anything if no ORIENTATION is specified.  Looks like right now, if nothing is specified, the default of 0,0,-1 (FDS default) is being displayed, but it really has no meaning for a device that doesn't utilize the orientation.  But that is a minor issue.  Thanks Glenn.

there will always be an orientation.  If you don't specify one explicitly in the input file then 0,0,-1 will be used by default. (ie for the 0,0,-1 vector, smokeview flips the object as it is defined in the object file about the z axis )
