Hi everybody,

Is that possible to export video of Smokeview animation ?

For example I create a "tour" in Smokeview, can export this tour to
watch it with VLC or Windows media player ?

thanks for your help,
Arthur

Hi Arthur,

Yes, it is possible. See Section 14 Making a Movie, in the Smokeview
Users Guide.

I use Windows Media Encoder (free from microslop) which seems to be
the simplest to use. If I want really high quality I use my ULead's
Gif Animator (not free) to splice together smokeview's render to jpg
function.

Media Editor to make movies, it's free and very easy to use you can
download it from http://www.c-point.com/download2.htm

Well, you might also want to try VEG:
http://virtual.vtt.fi/virtual/proj6/veg/

It's free and easy to use, you do not need to
read any manual. And I usually put the Smokeview
to dump .png rather than .jpg. You get better
looking pictures using .png. JPG might be better
for real photographs etc, but PNG is better for
"line graphics" style (less colours?). Smokeview
scenes are usually quite simple, rectangular blocks
with one colour. But try both jpg and png and see
by our own eyes.

Hi Timo,

What operating system are you using? I have not been able to get VEG to
work on VISTA. I have an older machine at home still running XP that I
use for VEG.

Hi Dave, I have XP also. And nobody updates VEG anymore.
The only thing I can suggest is that try to install VEG
somewhere else than the program files directory. Might
be something with the permissions to run and save things
in Vista. What I have heard, Vista does not trust the user
as much as XP does. XP is nice when you have administrator
rights on your computer. (Well, I like more Unix/Linux style,
where the user has user rights and then I can use command
"su" to install, I like to be called "the super-user" ;-)
