Smokeview shows the object and data in 3D from a point of view.

Let's imagine there is a room with dimensions 3m x 3m x 1m. The goal is to visualize a slice at z= 0.5m in 2D , looking downward..

By using the command "clip geometry" one can eliminate blockages and/or data, leaving only a plane (e.g. from z=4.9m to z=5.1m, in order to habve the objects).

1. How can I position my point of view at z=0.5m looking in -z direction and have the correct room proportions and sizes, in order to export the correct image and postprocess it with other softwares?

2. Is there a way in Smokewiev to visualize and export the image of a plane or slice (e.g. temperature, velocity, ...) data in 2D, else than using the fds2ascii command?

Thanks

Michele

use the mouse to position the scene to where you want it. Then use
the "r" key to create an image of what you see on the screen. In the
File/Bounds dialog box there is a check box under the Slice panel that
lets you output slice file data to a spreadsheet file. You may also
switch the projection used to display the images between perspective
(distant objects appear smaller) or size preserving by pressing the
<ALT> v key. The size preserving or orthographic projection is a good
way of making 3d objects appear 2D.

forgot to add, you can also use the "View" menu item to save a
viewpoint so that the next time you use smokeview for your case, you
may go back to the exact viewpoint you used earlier
