Hello everybody,

After to install FDS in my portable. I can not launch a calculation.
When i wanted launch the calculation, there was the error message : impi.dll is not present in the portable.
To solve the problem, i have intalled a previous version of FDS, and i can launch my calculations.
So i think that there is a problem in the last version of FDS concerning the file impi.dll.

Waiting to have an answer about it

Read the users's guide on how to run FDS. There are changes to how this is done in the latest release.

I don't want to be rude, but saying "read User's Guide" is not always an helpful answer.

Just like brad_fds6 I installed new version of FDS and got the same massage, although I implemented new commands from the newest User's Guide. The file impi.dll is just not there, and the way I solved the problem is by copying mpiexec folder into bin folder, to help FDS find all the necessary files to run a simulation. It worked on one computer, on the other it still doesn't work. So, there is clearly a problem with installation, as more and more people start using FDS 6.7.1.

If you look in firemodels\FDS6\bin\mpi, do you see impi.dll?
Were you trying to run FDS using the CMDfds shortcut on your desktop?

I few screen shots of what you actually type, at install, and at runtime, would probably help us try to guess at what the problem might be.

Please understand, we test these installs on several different Windows machines, and we obviously would not release the code if it did not work for us.

Yes, there is impi.dll in the mpi folder.

Maybe this will help with the debugging.

On my windows computer, I installed the newest version and fds_local ran fine .  Now fds_local does not work and I get the message below.  I did run fds through pyrosim between my successful and unsuccessful runs.  I tried reinstalling fds and fds_local still would not run.  When I copied the files from mpi to bin, fds_local ran.

'mpiexec' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Are you using the Cmdfds shortcut that was installed on the desktop?

I ran from a command prompt each time.  I did not use desktop icon.

Does it work if you use the desktop icon? This icon sets environmental variables needed by fds and its mpi libraries.

When you open the desktop icon, CMDfds, a few scripts are run and path variables set pointing to the correct executables and libs. We did this because we were having too many conflicts with command line and PyroSim and our own builds.

Hi Team,

For what it is worth, I ran into this when I installed FDS as administrator and ran under a a different user account. However, the issue went away for my when I ran FDS from under my administrator account.

Regards,

Michael Abbot
