Hello,
at the beginning I would like to say that I am beginer at working with FDS. I am modeling plastic windows in one room and I need to know surface temperature of plastics part of the windows.
For the surface temperature I use devc WALL TEMPERATURE and when I run simulation FDS show me this error:
ERROR: Reposition DEVC No.   1. FDS cannot determine which boundary cell to assign.

And after severel attemps when I was changing location od device, mesh and other it is still report this error, so I ask here for advice.
It is room 10x10m with this mesh:

&MESH ID='Mesh01', IJK=200,8,84, XB=0.4,10.4,0.0,0.4,0.0,4.2/ 50x50x50 (wall with windows)
&MESH ID='Mesh02', IJK=50,47,21, XB=0.4,10.4,1.8,11.2,0.0,4.2/ 50x50x50
&MESH ID='Mesh03', IJK=8,224,84, XB=0.0,0.4,0.0,11.2,0.0,4.2/ 100x100x100
&MESH ID='Mesh04', IJK=100,14,42, XB=0.4,10.4,0.4,1.8,0.0,4.2/ 200x200x200

Here i have define plastic windows:
&HOLE XB=4.0,5.0,-0.005,0.2,1.0,3.5/ Okno1
&OBST XB=4.0,4.118,0.05,0.12,1.118,3.382, COLOR='ALICE BLUE', PERMIT_HOLE=.FALSE., SURF_ID='PLAST'/ 1
&OBST XB=4.0,5.0,0.05,0.12,1.0,1.118, COLOR='ALICE BLUE', PERMIT_HOLE=.FALSE., SURF_ID='PLAST'/ 1
&OBST XB=4.0,5.0,0.05,0.12,3.382,3.5, COLOR='ALICE BLUE', PERMIT_HOLE=.FALSE., SURF_ID='PLAST'/ 1
&OBST XB=4.882,5.0,0.05,0.12,1.118,3.382, COLOR='ALICE BLUE', PERMIT_HOLE=.FALSE., SURF_ID='PLAST'/ 1

And here device for this one window:

&DEVC ID='1', QUANTITY='WALL TEMPERATURE', XYZ=4.059,0.125,1.059, IOR=-2/
&DEVC ID='2', QUANTITY='WALL TEMPERATURE', XYZ=4.279,0.125,1.059, IOR=-2/
&DEVC ID='3', QUANTITY='WALL TEMPERATURE', XYZ=4.5,0.125,1.059, IOR=-2/

I would be really glad if someone can help me ( it would be good if it can be in simple english :))
I can´t help myself :(

Thank you
Jana

Jana,

Your surface points in the +2 direction for IOR.  Just set IOR=+2 and it will work.

Your test ran fine for me too. But when I put it in my code it still says error. So there is some bigger problem i guess but still i don´t understand if i have define the same wall temperature why it is reporting this error. I can show you my whole code maybe you will see where is the problem :)

Gradually remove input lines until you discover the problem. That is what we would have to do. We cannot just look at 200 lines of input and know right away what is wrong.

Of course I understand what you mean, but I thought that you might see for expample that I cant use wall temperature devices with some other devc or something like this. Because even when I remove devc line one by one it is still report this error and when all wall temperature devc are removed, fds run normally. And it is wierd because with same devc and meshes Randy´s code runs good.

Your case says the offending DEVCs are 1 and 81.  They are in order in the file.  Removing all others you see that the problem is that they positioned more than a grid cell away from the wall.  See attached.  You probably did the calc of position with the coarse grid DX, but the DEVC are on fine grid.
