Good evening,
I am an Italian student, attending the Master Science Degree Course in Building Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin. At the moment, I am working on my Master Degree Thesis about the structural response to fire. What I have to do is to perform several structural analysis taking account of the temperature profile over time. To do this, I have to use the FDS2FTMI macro, programmed by Eng. Julio C. G. Silva. I managed to make the macro working in APDL for the examples provided by Silva but I cannot understand how to import geometries done by me. Let me explain better what I mean. This is what I usually do to import a geometry in APDL:
  1. I model the structure with a 3D model engine (in my case Rhinoceros)
  2. I export the model as IGES model
  3. I open APDL and import the model from IGES file
  4. It seems to work fine, except I cannot use the macro, since the elements and nodes lists are empty
This procedure is quite similar to the one I use to import the model in my FDS calculator (Pyrosim) - except for the exportation format from Rhinoceros, because in this case I am using an ACIS SAT model - but for the fire simulation it works fine.
Basically this is my issue. How could I solve it?
I apologize for any lacking details about the problem, but I am not an expert user of APDL and so I never tried to "force" the model from script code.
Thanks all are going to answer me.
Best regards
Nicola Tunzi

Hi Nicola,

This might not be the right place for this particular question. It is probably better to contact the developers of FDS2FTMI for such issues.
