When we look at the wall temperature boundary file for the example ht3d_ibeam, we get a beautiful, animated image of heat transfer through the beam:

(This is great work, by the way. Thanks very much for your continued efforts.)

However, I don't see any way to see the temperature at the web/flange interface. For example, if I turn on a clipping plane at that level, I don't see the temperature:

The web is shown at the default temperature even though clearly elevated temperatures have reached beyond the web.

The slice files don't seem to help, either. As a side note, I'm not sure why these slice files don't show any temperature increase around the beam - shouldn't there be convective heat loss to the air?

With the boundary off, of course you can clearly see that the slice files are not visible within the solid.

So, is there another way that I can create animated visuals for this within Smokeview?

In my project, I'm trying to show a visualization of a multi-layered material and, particularly, the interface temperatures. However, I can't seem to find a mechanism to visualize this temperature over time relationship.

Would it be possible, for example, for slice files to capture the temperature(s) in solids? If that's not desirable for all cases, maybe it could be a flag that could be asserted to cause slice files to capture temperatures. That might be the default for 3d heat transfer obstructions.

I appreciate any assistance or guidance in this endeavor.

Yes, slice files will show the interior temperature. In Smokeview, make the solid geometry "Outline Only" and then Show/Hide --> Slice File --> Gas/Solid

Never mind about the convective heat question - I now see the solid phase only flag. Thanks.

Yes, some of these test cases are run with solid phase only to make them fast. These cases are run each night, and there are hundreds of them.
