Hi
Can someone please help me confirm that to convert from mol fraction
to ppm we simply multiply the result produced by FDS 5 by 10^6...

z mol of gas /mol of air = y 10^-6 micro mol of gas / mol of air
y = z 10^6

Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary,

ppm means "parts per million" so 1 ppm is equivalent to 10^-6. It is a
more convenient way to express very small amounts.

1 ppm CO is equivalent to 10^-6 = 0.000001 mol/mol CO

So, to convert from mol/mol to ppm, you have to multiply the result by
10^6.

Cheers
Sylvain

Hello,

Kindly, what is the minimum standard for CO monoxide (in ppm) for the evacuation safety of personnel?

Thank you,
Imad

That is defined in multiple ways. Some references give a definite limit, meanwhile others time dependent. It is also possible to calculate it via Fractional Effective Dose method.

One example, See Section B.2.2
