Hi Friends,
I am trying to learn FDS 5 for cone calorimeter experiments. ı am new
in that subject and ı dont have many times to learn about it. ı
thought that this group can help me to learn this program rapidly. I
am PhD student at Energy departmen of mechanical engineering. ı am
trynig to use this program for cone calorimeter and need input files
for that. do you have any input files to help me? ı really thankfull
for your helps.

Hello bilal

look at fds examples files. in pyrolysis folder you can find some examples like (thermoplastic.fds) that can help you. by making some modifications on them, you can be able to simulate your own calorimetry problem.

Hi mahyar,
thank you for your reply. ı looked at the examples as you said. ı
wonder whether there is a any input file for cone calorimeter.

http://www.fire-testing.com/html/instruments/cone.htm that is my cone
calorimeter device. ı want to model this and ı want to ask that if ı
can set its geometry one to one in FDS? or if anyone has that input
file ready?

yes. there isn't any input file for calorimeter geometry because external heat flux is fixed on solid surface in these examples. if you want simulate your own calorimetry with specific geometry you should modify these example files and make your own geometry. they are just first step and tell you how to use pyrolysis model in simple examples.

ı see. so ı should make my own geometry file for cone calorimeter. so
that ı need to study these exmaple files at first then ı will set my
own file. thank you for your quick replies mahyar. if ı want to ask
something about this subject, can ı ask that to you? thank you

if you want learn more about simulating  cone calorimetry  and simulated geometry you can use this thesis :

Decomposition , Ignition and Flame Spread on Furnishing Materials

thank you Mahyar,
ı got this thesis now and studying it. ı can have some opinions with
this thesis. ı will study it and try to learn more. thank you again
