Hi colleagues,

Thanks for accepting my request to join the group,

I'm new towards FDS and I'm working on wood cribs and currently having a issue regarding the property of the wood.My aim is to run a simulation of 6 separate wood cribs in a room and study the spread of the fire after the ignition of a single crib through the process of a burner, before turning of the burner and allow the fire to spread from the crib. I attached the file and would be grateful if someone can review it and apply feed back.

A further issue is with regards to the proper value of the reference temperature of the wood. When studying the user guide, it didn't appear too clear as the application was different to the auto-ignition temperature.

Kind Regards,

If you are new to FDS, I do not suggest you start by modeling wood cribs. This is still very much in the realm of research. There are no tables of thermo-physical properties of wood, and it is very difficult to model a complicated fuel package like a wood crib. You could look at the FDS Validation Guide, chapter on Burning Rates, to get a better idea of the types of materials that we have modeled at small scale.

If you do a TGA analysis, the REFERENCE_TEMPERATURE of a given reaction is the temperature at which the mass loss rate is at a maximum. The FDS Verification Guide, chapter on Pyrolysis can explain more.

Hi Kevin,

I'm also interested in working on wood. I found a study was done recently on the same topic attached in this message. Could you please elaborate on the issue of reference temperature how can someone estimates it for different materials. I would be glad if you can provide an example on it to understand me more. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Salah

Dear dr_jfloyd,
I'm so sorry for that. I will try to delete it.
