hello
i am running a simulation of fire in atrium and i used the reactant is ethanol. based on past researches i used the soot yield by ethanol (0.08) and the CO yield 0.022 but the results in SV show a bulk amount of black smoke which makes me skeptical about the value of the soot.
i would really appreciate of you can give me the reference that i can use to specify the soot yield value of ethanol.
thank you

Hi,
The SFPE Handbook, 3rd Ed,table 3-4.14 indicates
CO yield = 0.001
soot yield = 0.008
Heat of combustion = 25.6
Radiative heat of combustion = 6.5
You will have to change the radiative fraction from the default value of 0.35.

If you are using the latest FDS and use FUEL='ETHANOL', the FDS will automatically adjust the radiative fraction per the table of species in the User's Guide
