Hello,

I am new to FDS and have read the User's Guide.

I am trying to model a car park with jet fans. I have added 3 fans to the model at different points (all with the flow along the x-axis) and it has run successfully. However on adding another jet fan but with flow along the x-axis, I get the error message attached. This is the same code as in the FDS examples and I have always tweaked it to use, I do not comprehend why it isn't running now. The code is also attached (the error is with 'JET FAN13')

You have made the VENT color for the fans the same as the OBST they are attached to. This makes it hard to tell if the VENT's have been properly applied.  Make the VENT color different then look at the smokeview file to make sure your VENTs are being applied correctly. If you don't find an error that way, post a simplified version (get rid of everything that doesn't relate to the problem) of the file to the issue tracker.

Chuma,

On line 5 you did not use the proper quote characters to define the ID. See the attached images.

The reason I read your question is that I am working on jet fans and wanted to see what problem you had.

Best wishes,
Dan

Hello Dan,

Thanks for the reply. I do not use Pyrosim, and FDS did not give an error message for the REAC line. It's probably a pyrosim construct.

Kind regards,
Chuma.

Your entire domain only goes from 0-3.4 meters in the Z direction,
each cell is 0.435m tall

Your JET FAN13 is specified from 3.2 to 3.5 meters putting part of the
jet fan outside your domain.

Also, you need to snap your coordinates to your grid: Specify the
coordinates of the VENT to be whole number multiples of your gird
resolution.

Thanks Andrew.

I didn't realise that. I was working with a different MESH beforehand.

Slightly new question, but on the same FDS model.

When the time-step does not change (after the first step, even though the code set-up properly), is that a sign that I need a machine with a higher processor? I have nine jet fans in the model now.
