You can only define one vent for a surface. If more than one vent s
defined for a
surface, FDS has no innate knowledge of which you intend to have
precedence. Thus,
FDS is coded so that first vent defined takes precedence (first caution box
in
section 7.3 of the User's Guide). FDS should only be rejecting the other
vents in
regions that overlap. Move the other VENTs to be before the GYPSUM vent and
then they
should work.
Jason,
I am really surprised that I never noticed this before. What if I want to
define
the boundaries of a mesh with a material property and I also want an open
vent on
that boundary? How do I do it?
Example. Mesh is a room with gypsum walls. There is one open window
represented by
a vent with SURF_ID=OPEN .

Prior to FDS 5, the convention used by FDS was to accept the LAST VENT line
rather
than the first whenever there was a conflict. For various reasons, it was
better to
process the first VENT and reject (at least in the overlap region) the
subsequent
VENTs. When I sat in on the SFPE class in Las Vegas, Fall 2007, the issue
came up
repeatedly.
In your example, declare the OPEN VENT first.
